“Legacies” pulls out all the stops for its season finale, “There’s Always a Loophole,” in which Triad Industries comes after the students of the Salvatore School, forcing everyone into life or death stakes. Landon battles his brother, Clarke, while Hope discovers a crucial piece of the puzzle.
Bite the Bullet | Triad breaks into the Salvatore School and turns on a magical fountain in the basement that nullifies all magic on campus, leaving the students powerless. Burr, a particularly sadistic agent, goes to the trouble of making Malivore bullets to shoot at Hope, but Josie takes her bullet, leaving her at death’s door. MG’s mother tries to lead MG himself to safety, but he knocks her out and signals for the students to wait to fight back.
Hope meets Alaric in the basement and he turns off the magical fountain because he’s the one who put it there. During this, Hope realizes that the Malivore bullet did hit her, but she was somehow unharmed. She realizes that she’s immune to Malivore and tells Alaric to give Josie a vial of her blood to cure her, which he does. As the students make short work of the Triad agents, Rafael turns into a werewolf via Hope’s magic necklace that only she can turn off.

A Needle in a Haystack | Clarke takes Landon to where the last artifact is located and Landon at first tricks Clarke, but unconsciously steals the dagger needed to unlock Malivore. This brings a headless horseman after the dagger, which Clarke allows him to take so he can free Malivore, but Landon follows the horseman back to Triad’s lab.
Alaric gathers the students to inform them of his role in placing the magical fountain as a contingency in case things got out of hand. He asks the student tribunal to vote on whether or not he will continue as headmaster, but Rafael is still a werewolf, Emma has left the school and Hope has gone after Landon.
No More Hope | Hope meets Landon at the lab and dispatches the horseman before telling Landon that she loves him. As they kiss, Clarke grabs the dagger and throws it into Malivore’s pit, freeing him. Landon manages to snap Clarke’s neck in about two seconds- pretty badass, I gotta admit- and then Hope snaps Landon’s neck soon after. She calls Alaric to tell him that she is the only thing that can kill Malivore and she’ll have to sacrifice herself to destroy it. She tearfully tells Alaric to burn all evidence that she ever existed after she gets erased and go find Landon before she hangs up. Clarke resurrects and tries to take her out, but she grabs him and drags him into the pit. Alaric and everyone else suddenly have no idea what happened or who Hope is as Landon resurrects to find a hole where Malivore used to be.
