“Legacies” Recap: Operation Rescue Landon

Recap of Episode “Long Time, No See”

This week’s Legacies episode, “Long Time, No See,” sees Hope going to drastic and uncomfortable lengths to get Landon back, leading to a number of twists, logic leaps and poor writing. Hope is willing to do anything to save Landon, while MG is forced into a precarious position after his betrayal.

Never Giving Up | Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) has a dream about rescuing Landon (Aria Shaghasemi) from the prison world, which she takes as a sign that he’s still alive. While Alaric (Matthew Davis) won’t okay a rescue mission until he’s sure it’s safe, MG (Quincy Fouse) is so much hated by the entire student body for hiding the Ascendant, even Kaleb (Chris Lee) won’t talk to him. Hope and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) astral project themselves into the prison world and find Landon’s note that he left on the gate of the school, proving that he’s alive. But after they leave, a skull masked figure carrying bones stalks through the woods.

When Hope assembles the crew to launch a rescue mission into the prison world, but when MG raises objections about the safety of the plan, Hope and the others shun him and he walks out. But after he leaves, Lizzie backs out of the mission, agreeing with MG, which throws the plan into a loop since only a Gemini witch can open the portal. This forces Hope to go to Mystic Falls High to find Josie (Kaylee Bryant), who is flirting with Finch. (Courtney Bandeko)

Taking Sides | Lizzie tracks down MG and gives the Ascendant to him so he can hide it from Hope, both of them realizing that Hope won’t stop until she finds Landon- no matter the cost. To that point, Hope drags Josie away from Finch and her classes to try to open the portal and she has the coin that Josie’s magic is funneled into to give her her powers back.

Meanwhile, Cleo (Omono Okojie) casts a spell to summon a monster from her folklore called the Ferryman, who ferries souls from the dead, thinking it can bring Landon back. With it trapped in the shack, Alaric agrees to try to use it as a last resort, while Lizzie finds out that Hope has Josie and, in a heartbreaking twist, uses magic to incapacitate MG so she can bring the Ascendant to Hope in exchange for saving Josie.

Blindspots | Alaric, Cleo and Kaleb convince the Ferryman to track down Landon, via song of all things, while Lizzie agrees to perform the spell to access the prison world. But when Hope and Lizzie perform the spell, black magic oozes from the Ascendant and threatens to consume them, but Hope refuses to stop the spell. Okay, Hope has crossed the line! Even when Josie steps in to try to shoulder the burden, Hope doesn’t seem to care!

Then, someone steps in and destroys the Ascendant and it turns out to be Landon, which of course makes Hope super happy and totally not caring about the fact that she nearly killed the twins! The next morning, Lizzie wakes up MG and apologizes to him, but MG says that since no one at the school trusts him anymore, he has no reason to be there and walks away from her. And where is Hope? Happy as a clam now that Landon’s back! Not okay!

Legacies returns with new episodes on Thursday, April 8.
