Like a great many shows, Legacies was forced into unideal filming conditions due to COVID-19. Thus, we have “To Whom It May Concern,” a clearly contrived solution to the socially distant era we find ourselves in. Landon meets an unlikely familiar face, while Lizzie tries to cheer up Hope and also welcome new students to the school. Josie enrolls at Mystic Falls High and Alaric must inform the students of an unfortunate turn of events.
A Good Distraction | Beginning this strange episode, Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) walks through the glowing door from last episode’s cliffhanger and winds up in- you won’t believe this- an ice cream shop where the Necromancer (Ben Geurens) is chained up and serving shakes??!! Back at the Salvatore School, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) is desperate for a distraction from Landon’s “death” and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) offers her the chance to give a tour for new students- all five of them.
Turns out that Alaric (Matthew Davis) forget to tell everyone that due to recent events, a lot of parents pulled their kids from the roster, leaving the school in danger of shutting down. As Hope and Kaleb (Chris Lee) continue the tour to unimpressed students, Josie (Kaylee Bryant) goes to her first day at Mystic Falls High, where she runs into Dorian (Demetrius Bridges), the new school principal, and is greeted by the flirtatious Finch (Courtney Bandeko).

Torture in Plain Sight | The Necromancer informs Landon that he was put in the ice cream shop as torture and the only way he can escape his chains is to do the one thing he’ll never do. Landon very quickly figures out that this means the Necromancer will have to *Gulp* sing a song, which he does, freeing him. He then knocks out Landon and reveals that he also has a key that unlocks some unknown way out and only one person can use it. When Landon comes to, he realizes that the key is for the locked freezer, leaving them to fight over it.
While giving the tour, Hope reminisces about Landon, causing her to have a magical outburst, knocking out the three remaining students. This is bad news, because Alaric convinced a few ex students to come back, leaving them two shy of the minimum they need. One of the students is a friend of Penelope Park, so that’s one off the list, while another is out to kill Alaric because he murdered his vampire parents. But that won’t stop Alaric from giving a sales pitch regardless!
What Do You See? | The final student, Cleo (Omono Okojie), almost walks out when Kaleb tries to smooth talk her, but she runs into Hope and asks her what’s bothering her. When Hope bares her soul over losing Landon and tells Cleo that they might have to close the school, Cleo appreciates her honesty and agrees to sign up. Back in the ice cream shop, the Necromancer slaps the chains on Landon and almost escapes, but Landon beats the living pulp out of the Necromancer, which frees him from the chains and he jumps through the portal hidden in the freezer.
With Alaric having sent the vampire home, our only hope lies with Penelope’s friend who turns out to be an online D&D partner of Wade’s! (Elijah B. Moore) Lizzie goes to try to finally make peace with MG (Quincy Fouse), but he coldly turns her down, thinking that she’ll just use him as a shoulder for support and that isn’t good for him, crushing Lizzie. Landon ends up free of the ice cream shop, but still stuck in the prison world and he vows to find an escape.
