Originally planned as “Legacies'” second season finale, “Hold On Tight” has quite the hype behind it and very little bite. MG tries to convince Alyssa to turn the corner, while the Necromancer unleashes monsters on Mystic Falls. Hope and Landon team up to stop him, while Lizzie must convince Josie to use magic again to save the day.
Team Monster | Alyssa (Olivia Liang) uses MG’s (Quincy Fouse) blood to open the Malivore portal, linking his body to the monsters that the Necromancer (Ben Guerens) is summoning at Mystic Falls High School, meaning that the more monsters emerge from Malivore, the more life gets drained from him. Josie (Kaylee Bryant) spots the Necromancer while interviewing Ethan (Leo Howard) at the school for a project and warns Alaric (Matthew Davis) and the rest of the students at the Salvatore School, who all agree to fight the monsters.
Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) and Landon (Aria Shaghahsemi) put their one year anniversary celebration on hold to sneak into the school through the boiler room, but there’s a barrier spell that blocks out Hope, but not Landon, meaning he must sneak in and disrupt the spell bringing the monsters back.

Back to School | Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) convinces Josie to get her magic back to help save MG, who Lizzie finally admits to Josie that she has feelings for. Landon finds the Necromancer, while the students fight off the hordes of monsters emerging from the school, only for Malivore to come out of the portal and try to kill him, but Landon finds a loophole in the Necromancer’s spell controlling Malivore and asks Malivore to possess him so he can kick the Necromancer’s ass.
He also disables the barrier spell, allowing Ethan and the trapped students to escape and Hope to chase after Landon, while Alaric and Sheriff Mack (Bianca Kajilch) start making short work of the resurrected monsters. Lizzie and Josie knock out Alyssa and find MG, but he tells them that only she can reverse the spell and he can convince her to do it.
The Grand Finale | The Malivore controlled Landon whoops the Necromancer’s butt, but then the Necromancer commands the dragon from the second episode of the series to fly in and incinerate Landon with its fire breath, right in front of Hope. As the Necromancer gives his evil speech, Hope decapitates him and then Landon magically reappears for some reason and kisses her. But of course, there’s 20 minutes left in the episode, so it’s not over! Turns out that Josie, Lizzie and MG convinced Alyssa to create yet another prison dimension to send the Necromancer and all of the monsters and Hope and Landon got sucked into the world as well.
Hope figures out a way for her and Landon to get back and they leave the Necromancer to be hunted by Malivore, as Alyssa turns the corner and forgives Josie. Hope takes Landon to the prison world’s version of the Malivore pit and reasons that if they go through, they’ll come out the other side. They do, both remembering each other and celebrate by losing their virginity, while back at the school, Alaric tells Kaleb (Chris Lee) to undo the compulsion on Mack and make her remember the magical side of Mystic Falls.
As Lizzie is on her way to tell MG how she feels, she sees Alyssa kissing him, but doesn’t stop them and tells Josie that she’s happy that he’s happy. Josie tells Lizzie that she locked her magic away again and wants to transfer to Mystic Falls High and be normal. Back with Hope and Landon, as the pair are enjoying post coitus cuddles, Landon coughs up blood and dissolves into black goo, which Hope only seems mildly upset by!
