“Legacies” Recap: A Tale of Two Landons

“Legacies” returns with “It Will All Be Painfully Clear Soon Enough,” in which the latest Malivore monster spins a riddle, Josie hatches a plan to keep Malivore at bay, and Alaric discovers Vardemus’s secret. Just another day in the life of the Salvatore School student body!

A Very Dangerous Plan | Lizzie takes Josie to watch over the Malivore portal with Hope, which, as you can imagine, goes as well as cement shoes in water. Also, Lizzie has sworn off speaking to MG for his role in the Sebastian debacle, which makes zero sense, since he had no idea Sebastian was real and Lizzie wasn’t going crazy, so he’s done nothing wrong! Anyway, the next monster is a sphinx, which looks really cool from a makeup/costume standpoint, who the girls lock up in the school dungeon.

For some reason, Josie hatches up a plan to use Hope’s prism that projects Landon to actually make a second Landon and inject him with Hope’s blood to take him to Malivore and seal it up before another monster could appear. It sounds a lot less crazier than it is, trust me!

An Evolved Being | The downside to the plot is that Simu-Landon, as they dub him, has zero filter and is head over heels in love with Hope, making it perfectly clear to Josie who Landon wants. Speaking of Josie, she once again goes to Vardemus to relieve her black magic headaches and he has her channel her magic into a trident. As Alaric finds out that the DNA of the killer at the bar matches Clark’s DNA from the Malivore pit, Josie sees Clark’s true face before passing out. Down in the basement, after being dosed up with Hope’s blood, Simu-Landon tries to lure the sphinx to take him to Malivore, but he refuses, saying that he’s not after Landon.

Secret’s Out | Hope is confronted by Clark, who reveals that the next person he stabs with the trident will become his new host body. After a game of cat and mouse, Clark goes after Hope, but Landon arrives and Clark stabs him with the trident. Fortunately, it’s Simu-Landon, whose lifespan is limited, and Hope destroys him before asking Josie if she can stay at the school. The girls then find Penelope’s journal, which shows Landon writing that he and Rafael are leaving Mystic Falls to lure the monsters away from them. The girls are broken hearted, but Josie tells Hope that she can stay. Alaric and Dorian interrogate the Sphinx, who reveals that something worse than Malivore is coming, but sits his own throat before revealing what. Then, Clark’s body is brought to the red cloaked figure…
