“Legacies” is getting intense, mysterious and more complicated in its latest episode, “Since When Do You Speak Japanese?” The latest Malivore monster turns out to be a body possessing demon being hunted by an ancient samurai. Alaric tries to convince Hope to tell Landon the truth, while MG sets out to expose Sebastian’s secret.
Samurai Demon Hunters | At Mystic Falls High, Alaric asks Hope to go back to the Salvatore School to protect the students from more Malivore monsters, but Hope refuses, still torn on whether or not she should tell Landon about their relationship. Josie ends up with a bad rash after using black magic at the flag football game and Vardemus offers to help her heal it, but she refuses. Meanwhile, Lizzie plans to “seize the lay” with Sebastian and MG borrows a video camera to prove that he isn’t real.

But the craziest part is when a Japanese samurai from the 1300s arrives in Mystic Falls and talks to Josie-who conveniently knows Japanese- about a demon that possesses bodies and could be anyone that he must kill with his magic sword. As Landon and Rafael go to Mystic Falls High to talk with Alaric, Josie and the samurai arrive and explain the situation, just as the demon possesses Rafael.
Right Place, Right Time | Landon wants to have the demon possess him so Josie can use the sword and kill the demon while he resurrects. Hope tries to talk him out of that plan and finally tells him about their relationship, but it doesn’t matter because the demon has already possessed him and made him kill the samurai.
Back at the Salvatore School, Lizzie arranges a picnic with Sebastian, which is crashed by MG, who proves to her that Sebastian isn’t real. Devastated, Lizzie tells MG that their friendship is over and drowns her sorrows in ice cream, when the possessed Landon arrives and Lizzie seemingly destroys the demon by plunging the sword into Landon.
Your Crazy Matches My Crazy | Hope and Josie arrive on the scene, only to find Lizzie chained to a tree- where did she get the chains???- because she’s been possessed. Somehow, Lizzie is able to fight off the demon, but she asks Josie to kill her with the sword. Josie manages to siphon off the black magic from the sword to remove the demon from Lizzie and expel it back to Malivore, causing both of them to pass out. Landon resurrects and asks Hope why he sees her face every time he dies, but she doesn’t answer.
MG gets a surprise visit from Sebastian, who of course, no one else can see, and he asks MG for help with something. After using black magic, Josie is feeling sick and asks Vardemus to heal her with his magic hourglass, which works. Alaric continues to flirt with Sheriff Mack, but in all the chaos of the day, accidentally stands her up at the bar. Not to mention that now there are two cloaked figures watching over Malivore. But the real kicker is that in the middle of the night, Lizzie wakes up and remembers everything about Hope.
