Following the shocking ending to its first season, Legacies returns with “I’ll Never Give Up Hope,” which throws our heroes into a world without Hope Mikaelson, causing new drama and new relationships to unfold. Meanwhile, Hope herself finds herself in Malivore with an unwelcome guest.
Welcome to Nothing | Picking up in the summertime after most of the Salvatore School’s students have gone home, Lizzie is off in Paris visiting Caroline and magically communicating with Josie over what to do about the Ascendant that they found. As Josie keeps an eye on Alaric, who’s been voted out of the school, Landon has been keeping the werewolf Rafael company in the woods, while also occasionally drowning himself and resurrecting.

Also, MG and Kaleb are having a BBQ competition, where MG crushes on a girl, Kim, who turns out to be Kaleb’s sister. Meanwhile, Hope wakes up in Malivore, a black void filled with nothing- except for Clark, who tries to convince Hope to help her escape.
One Way Ticket | As Hope and Clark try to escape from Malivore, vortexes keep opening and trying to suck Hope in, but Clark keeps saving her. Hope quickly deduces that these portals aren’t trying to kill her, they’re trying to get her out of Malivore. Clark was stopping her in an effort to get out himself. The next vortex arrives and Hope leaps through it, abandoning Clark to a lifetime of torment.
Last Resort | As the summer goes on, Josie and Landon strike up a friendship, as Josie keeps asking Alaric about the Ascendant and he finally tells her the truth: The Ascendant is locking away Josie and Lizzie’s uncle, who murdered their biological mother. Josie gives the Ascendant back to Alaric after learning this and Lizzie reveals to Josie that she’s spent almost the entire summer in therapy.
Landon and Josie try to find the missing Rafael, only to learn that he’s been wandering off through the woods, no longer interested in Landon. As Josie comforts Landon, the two share a kiss, which the newly freed Hope witnesses. Devastated, Hope prepares to leave town, but the bus is destroyed by a new monster. Back in Malivore, Clark begs his father to free him and vows to kill Hope, just as a cloaked figures burns down the Mystic Falls Cemetery.
