“Legacies” Recap: Landon, I Am Your Father
The last episode of “Legacies” before the explosive season finale, “I’ll Tell You a Story” delivers answers to the questions we’ve been asking all season long, along with a few questions. Josie cuts all ties with Lizzie and tries to find answers on the Merge, while Hope confronts her true feelings for Landon. Clarke reveals to Landon his family history, ending in a surprising offer.
Motivation | Josie is seriously pissed at Lizzie after last week, refusing to talk to her while also researching the Merge, which has been suspiciously removed from all school textbooks. Lizzie asks Hope to bake a banana cream pie- Josie’s favorite dessert- in exchange for giving Hope a crystal that projects her subconscious image of Landon so she can practice what to say to him.

Tracing the Family Tree | In a pretty dense and overwhelming chat, Clarke reveals to Landon the ENTIRE backstory of Malivore and Landon’s origins. Here we go: Malivore was created by a triad of a witch, a vampire and a werewolf who made a golem that would make the attacking monsters of the time disappear.
They also put a caveat on it that ensured the golem could not hurt witches, vampires or werewolves. Over the decades, the golem grew lonely and wanted to reproduce and created a number of children, one of whom turned out to be Clarke! But Clarke betrayed his father and called on a group of humans to transform the golem into Malivore as we know it.
We’re not even done yet!
With Answers Come Questions | Clarke worked for what ultimately became Triad Industries for years, until he discovered that they were using Malivore to silence ordinary people. He tells Landon that the original Triad created three locks and three decoy locks. Clarke wants to set Malivore free, promising Landon that the population of the Salvatore School will not be harmed, only the weirder than normal monsters. Landon agrees and tells Clarke where the final lock is, which the Triad men also discover.
Back at the school, Hope calls Freya to find out about the Merge and tells Alaric that he needs to tell the twins the truth. He does, tearfully, and all things considered, the twins stay remarkably calm during the news that one of them will kill the other!
Hope, after chatting with Landon’s projection, finally admits that she loves him, but it essentially doesn’t count, seeing as it’s not really him. She figures out that Triad has him via a phone message left by Landon with clues to his location and promises to go “full Wonder Woman.” But it’s going to have to wait, as Triad is coming through the front gates of the Salvatore School!
“Legacies” airs Thursdays on The CW.
