“The Vampire Diaries” alum Paul Wesley directs this week’s “Legacies,” “The Boy Who Still Has a Lot of Good to Do,” which starts off like any other episode and corkscrews into some real serious, game changing s**t. Don’t believe me? Let’s dive in, shall we?
When Rafael turns up unable to remember the events of the last full moon, Hope and Alaric try to find the missing Landon and MG, leading to a startling discovery.
Worst Road Trip Ever | It’s the full moon, and Landon, Rafael and MG are nowhere to be found. When Rafael turns up, still struggling to control his werewolf side and with very selective memory loss, Alaric and Kaleb head out to find MG and Landon. As Rafael tells the story of the last few days in flashback, “Usual Suspects” style, he reveals that while everyone was on spring break, Landon convinced MG and Rafael to go on a road trip to Maryland to reunite MG with his parents, hoping to find closure for MG.

Everything Will Be Fine | Via flashback, we discover that MG’s mother told his religious father that he’s been dead for the past year to avoid telling him that MG is a vampire. More troubling, MG’s mother made a deal with Alaric to keep this secret from his father, which Kaleb is troubled by.
Landon takes MG to see his father, who is running for mayor, telling the story of his son’s death at a speech, which for some reason, has no audience. When MG reveals to his father that he’s alive, MG Sr. is at first relieved, but when MG reveals that he’s a vampire, that relief turns to hatred. MG tearfully compels his father to believe that he is still dead.
Confession Time | Hope gives Rafael a serum to get him to remember what happened. Landon and Rafael didn’t make it back to the school before the full moon and Landon chained Rafael to a tree as he transformed into a werewolf. Rafael tells Hope that a monster attacked them and they all head to the woods, where they find MG dying from a werewolf bite. And here’s the kicker: MG, pissed at Landon for taking him to his father, flat out ripped his neck and fed on his blood!
To make matters more interesting, the devastated Hope’s blood is all that can save MG’s life. After crying her heart out, she does just that as Rafael finds Landon’s bloody body. As everyone grieves, Landon’s corpse catches fire and turns to ash, not helping Hope and Rafael. But wait! The ashy husk cracks apart and out comes Landon! So… his mother had sex with a phoenix in Malivore? We’ll see!
