Mere hours after receiving a season two renewal, “Legacies” delivers its latest episode, “What Was Hope Doing in Your Dreams?” As Landon adjusts to life at the Salvatore School, the latest monster invades the dreams and nightmares of the student body. Rafael is unexpectedly faced with new feelings for a fellow classmate.
Evacuate! | After an encore appearance from young Pedro, who sees a black-veiled woman in his dreams, Alaric evacuates most of the student body to the Lockwood mansion to avoid endangering the students. As always, Alaric has a book on the monster of the week, in this case it’s a night hag who manifests in dreams. When Rafael drifts off, he sees Hope wanting to kiss him, who quickly turns into an abusive foster father of his, who beats him with a belt. When Rafael wakes up, he has a mark from the belt hit on his arm.

Bait and Switch | Next up, Landon literally has the dream of being in class in his underwear- real original!- and stabs himself with a pencil to wake up. Again, the wound manifests in the real world, which leads Landon to figure out that the night hag isn’t a night hag, but a dream demon taking the form of a night hag to fool our heroes.
Hope Mikaelson, Dream Warrior | That night, Alaric takes the urn from Malivore and drives out of town with it, sending a goodbye message to the twins, who are visiting Caroline in Europe. In a surprising twist, he’s actually trapped in a dream loop, having fallen asleep while Hope and company are doing all the work, natch.
Speaking of, Hope has Landon, MG, Kaleb and Rafael fall asleep and tells Landon where the urn is before he does. In the dream, Landon grabs the demon and yanks it into the real world, where it heads to a Mikaelson safe built into the wall, only to find that it is empty. Hope arrives, having lied to Landon about the urn’s location and fights the demon and eventually kills it with one of Alaric’s crossbow arrows. One badass line walk later, Rafael confesses to Hope that he has lied to Landon to protect him and tells her that they can’t talk anymore, leaving Hope stunned. But she recovers quickly after Landon tells her that he wants her to trust him and she kisses him.
