“Legacies” Series Premiere Recap: Heroes and Villains

You’d think after 13 seasons of vampire drama between “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” Julie Plec and company would be fresh out of new stuff for the fans. Fortunately, “Legacies” has proved that there’s still plenty of supernatural drama to be had in Mystic Falls in “This Is the Part Where You Run,” a thrilling and enjoyable pilot that gives fans and newcomers plenty to chew on and lots to love.

You’re A Werewolf, Rafael | As the show begins, Landon Kirby takes his foster brother Rafael to a church where his parents try to outright kill him when he turns into a werewolf. Hope Mikaelson and Alaric Saltzman storm in at just the right time to rescue Rafael, but Landon understandably has some questions, forcing them to take him to Mystic Falls and to the Salvatore School.

As Josie and Lizzie Saltzman give Rafael a tour of the school, while Josie dodges her ex-girlfriend Penelope, Alaric explains to Landon the existence of magical creatures such as vampires, werewolves and witches. Alaric’s aide, MG tries to compel Landon to forget everything he’s seen, but for some reason, it doesn’t work on him. Alaric has Landon locked up in the school’s werewolf holding cell- slightly harsh, man!- until they can figure out what to do with him.

Cleanup on Aisle L | Hope visits Landon in his cell to tell him that sometimes, the town sheriff slips Vervain into the coffee of the gas station they stopped at and they have to wait for it to pass through his system. Meanwhile, Lizzie openly hits on Rafael- after finding out that he triggered his werewolf curse by accidentally crashing a car with his girlfriend inside. Smooth, Liz! Naturally, Rafael rejects her instantly, causing Lizzie to use her witch powers to trash the kitchen.

Later that night, Landon is yanked out of his cell by Josie, who takes him to a party with Rafael and the other students. During said party, Penelope seduces MG and Josie walks in on them kissing. Rafael convinces her that she should move on, while Josie convinces him to give Lizzie another chance.

The Girl with the Most Baggage | When Landon catches Hope in her werewolf form, she gives him her family history: Apparently, Klaus is a chapter in a textbook on the ultimate evil! Quite the accomplishment! Hope walks Landon back to his cell and he kisses her, since he’s not going to remember her the next day anyway.

The next morning, Landon tries to convince Alaric to let him stay, but Alaric insists that he won’t be safe at a school with vampires. MG compels him to forget everything and go home, but Alaric finds out that a magical knife of unknown origin is missing and Landon never went home. When Hope finds out, she secretly enlists Josie to use dark magic to track Landon and they find him on a bus just as the knife he stole is glowing red. The next day, Sheriff Donovan shows Hope and Alaric the bus and its incinerated passengers, with Landon nowhere in sight. Ruh-Roh.
