Episode 6 of Syfy’s second season of their hit show Killjoys finds our beloved bounty hunters on a dangerous and daring mission to try to acquire some of the green plasma that’s been used on D’avin (Luke Macfarlane). Along this journey they encounter dangerous asteroids, ass-kicking androids, and a possible new ally all while finding and figuring out what the green plasma does. Here is a recap of what happened in “I Love Lucy”, written by Jon Cooksey.
The episode begins with the Killjoys trying to figure out how to obtain some of the green plasma and looking to the mossipede (first introduced season 2 episode 3) for answers. They quickly realize that the plasma from the mossipede will only link D’avin to the mossipede, not to Khylen (Rob Stewart), who they are looking for. They need pure plasma, not mossipede plasma, so they set out on a journey to find some pure plasma on the black market. It is here when the Killjoys meet Romwell (Keon Alexander), a black market trader known for his exquisite collection of rare valuables across the galaxy. Romwell is also known for being almost impossible to find, and the Killjoys find out why. His ship is disguised in an asteroid an travels inside asteroid belts, making it undetectable.
Once they are aboard Romwell’s ship he reveals how he keeps such a vast collection in such a small space; he uses a molecular printer to print items using information stored in keys hanging all around the printer. He prints some of the pure plasma, but before he will give it to the Killjoys he wants to go aboard their ship to decide what he wants to trade for it. Romwell spots the mossipede and decides that is what he wants. After a brief discussion the Killjoys agree to cut the mossipede in half (remember, it has regenerative powers) and give Romwell one half in exchange for plasma. Romwell then double-crosses them by giving them the plasma from the mossipede instead of his pure plasma. When they try to fight him his female bodyguards whip out guns are we learn that they are actually androids Romwell has programmed to protect him. Romwell reveals his true intentions; he wishes to keep the Jaqobis’ for his collection, and he wants to trade Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) her stringed instrument (first seen in season 1 episode 4) for her freedom. Dutch goes with Romwell to a separate part of his ship, where she tricks him by poisoning him then killing him.
Or maybe not. It turns out that Romwell was experimented on by another race on a far away planet, they used the green plasma on him and now he cannot die, he is actually 432 years old. Dutch and Romwell reach an understanding about one another and Romwell agrees to let John and D’avin go, only his androids are stuck in kill mode.
Back with John (Aaron Ashmore) and D’avin, Lucy (Tamsen McDonough) has taken over one of the androids and is trying to help the Killjoys escape. Only after a few minutes the androids are able to hack Lucy and force her out of the bot she took over. D’avin realizes what they have to do in order to escape; he puts all the green plasma Romwell gave them (the pure plasma) onto a small piece of crystal from the asteroid and makes a grenade. He yells “I’m a wizard!” as he throws the grenade at the androids, then flees to their ship with the rest of the Killjoys and Romwell. Dutch gives Romwell a new identity and in exchange he gives her another vial of the pure plasma, and tells her that he feels free finally.
The episode wraps up with two very different scenes, the first involving Dutch and Alvis (Morgan Kelly). Alvis shows Dutch an old book that he has been studying; in it is an image and description of the Tree of Life, which contains the Sap of Life. The sap is described as “a green elixir that confers eternal life.” Could this be the same thing they are looking for, the green plasma? The final scene of the episode is shared between D’avin and Sabine (Tori Anderson), and shows them being very flirtatious which leads to them getting more physical. That is, until green goo start coming out of her eyes and mouth and she starts convulsing. The final shot of the episode shows D’avin leaning over her body as she convulses in an ever-growing puddle of green goo.
What an exciting episode! What did you all think? Will the Killjoys ever see Romwell again? Is the Sap of Life the green plasma? Why did Sabine start leaking green goo, was it the plasma? Leave your comments below to let us know what you think!
