Episode 5 of Season two of Syfy’s Killjoys had us following our favorite intergalactic bounty hunters on yet another crazy adventure. The episode had it all, from family interactions ending with gruesome results to a Jaqobis brother body swapping with an enemy, with the Killjoys splitting into two groups to try to solve their problems. Here is a recap of what happened in “Meet the Parents.”
While Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane) are busy working in Old Town, John (Aaron Ashmore) and Pawter (Sarah Power) are nervously awaiting dinner with Pawter’s wealthy family. John meets Pawter’s sister and her skethcy fiancé, along with her parents. During a private discussion with her father, Pawter promised him that she is now ready to take her place as a part of The Nine, but her father knows she is lying. Later, Pawter and John are talking in private when one of the servants walks in from outdoors, and appeared to be freezing solid before their eyes. Before completely freezing he was able to warn them that whatever did this came from the fog, then he shattered into a million little ice pieces. Upon analysis, they learned that it is some sort of pathogen being carried by the fog. A short while later John discovers there is an Alpha Shield in place, keeping in the fog and blocking them from leaving. He knows he must blow up the power source in order for them to escape. Pawter discovers that her mother infected herself with the pathogen (she thought she had the cure) because she created the pathogen herself, but someone stole it in order to use it on her and her family. She tells Pawter where all her bio scans are and to use the science in order to help the others, then she froze solid. After studying her mother’s notes, Pawter discovers that the core pathogen has one vulnerability, extreme heat. John gets to where the shields power source is with a bomb and detonator, but before he is able to connect everything Pawter’s sisters’ sketchy fiancé appears, destroys the detonator, and holds John at gunpoint. Pawter’s father saves the day, but sacrifices himself to blow up the bomb since the detonator was destroyed. Later, in Qresh, Pawter is inaugurated into The Nine, becoming the Lady of the Land. Her and John finally discuss their feelings for one another, and even kiss. But wait, what about Dutch?
D’avin is flirting with an attractive bartender when he begins to hear a weird tune in his head and passes out. Khylen (Rob Stewart) is shown pulling his hands out of a vat of his famous green goo, humming the same tune D’avin heard in his head just moments before. When D’avin starts humming the tune Dutch pulls a gun on him and tells him that that is the song Khylen wrote for her, pushing her to make the connection between D’avin and Khylen . She urges D’avin to fight it the next time it happens, but when that happens it results in the two men switching bodies. While in D’avin’s body, Khylen realizes that the military experimented on D’avin’s mind, surely this must be why he is immune to the green goo! Once they switch back to their rightful bodies Khylen vowed to figure out what the military did to D’avin.
What did you think of the episode? What was your favorite part? Do you think John will tell Dutch he kissed Pawter, or keep that to himself? What did the government do to D’avin’s brain? Did they enhance him or harm him? Leave your comments below to let us know what you think!
