OMFGTV met up with The Originals star Joseph Morgan this past summer at the San Diego Comic-Con and chatted with him about the upcoming season.
“We saw in the finale that my father and my mother are back and so we’re going to explore the family’s relationship, the family dynamic, how Klaus became the person that he is because of his parents and also how he’ll deal with being a parent.”
There will be a four-month time jump when the season starts up and viewers will find Klaus locked away in the compound like a caged animal. “He’s kind of boiling with rage, but he hasn’t made a move yet,” Morgan says. “He’s biding his time waiting for the right moment to make a move, so he’s been doing a lot of painting, which is a form of control. He’s trying to express himself through painting and he does in episode 1, which you’ll enjoy once you see what I mean by that.” Could the painting be of Caroline?!
As for the fan-favorite pairing of Caroline and Klaus, or “Klaroline,” Morgan doesn’t see more of them together in the future. “I think that story has an end now. If we were to tag something on the end we’ve already done, then I don’t know that that would be honoring the fans. At the moment, it’s this epic romance that came to an end that was wonderful and tragic, and if we keep goign with it and going with it, how long before it loses some of it magic? I understand why people want it to continue, but what I wanted the most from it is for it to be something that means something and that these people want it more. And if you keep going with it eventually people won’t want more, I think.”
Morgan also discussed how he would like to see the end of the series for his character, and some might not see it as a happy ending. “I think he has to die in the end. He’s immortal, but I think he needs an end. I would be disappionted if the [series] ended and it was just business as usual in the compound. I really feel like we’ve managed to create these characters in this kind of epic world between supernatural factions What I would love is him sacrifice himself for love at the end of the series.I think that would be [his] redemption.”
The Originals Season 2 airs this fall on The CW.
