That is the official logline for the series from Showrunner and Executive Producer Jennie Snyder Urman (Emily Owens, M.D.). It was definitely easy to dismiss the show and laugh it off, but one thing is for sure: Do not judge a show by it’s logine– or title!
What we thought for sure was going to become The CW’s first cancellation turned out to be our #1 pick for best new comedy of the season!
While the entire ensemble is enjoyable, it is its titular star Gina Rodriguez who shines in her performance as the young mother-to-be that really cements the show into what it has become. It’s no surprise that she along with the show were nominated for a Golden Globe– a first for the teen-skewing network.

When OMFGTV screened the pilot months before premiere, we loved all the twists and turns the single installment alone provided, however, our concerns were that throughout the season, the freshman dramedy wouldn’t be able to hold up and consistently churn out the shocks. All of our worries were quashed as the subsequent episodes and throughout the entire run of the first season, Jane the Virgin did not fail to deliver.
What’s refreshing about Jane is that it is light-hearted, chick-flick fare, not commonly seen on The CW. On a network full of supernatural entities and superheroes, this series may seem out of place, but it is that very reason that it stands out, and in a very good way.
The writing and stories are fast paced and when matched with the brilliant delivery of the cast, it’s no wonder the show has become a critical darling.
If you’re looking for something light, exciting, and laugh-out-loud funny, then Jane the Virgin is absolutely worth a viewing.
