Strong words from Abuela Alba (Ivonne Coll) as she gives the sex talk to her granddaughter, Jane (Gina Rodriguez), in the series premiere of The CW’s new dramedy, Jane the Virgin.
“I’m trying to instill in her the value or virginity,” Ivonne Coll (Teen Wolf) says, “because once you lose your virginity, you can never go back and have it again.”

The new show, loosely based on the telenovela Juana la Virgen, follows the life of a religious young Latina who is accidentally artificially inseminated.
As you watch the clip below, you’ll notice that Abuela Alba is speaking Spanish, which is different from all the previous promos released by The CW where she speaks English. OMFGTV had the chance to watch the series premiere a couple months ago and loved that in it, Jane’s Abuela only speaks Spanish.

With the pilot episode having the character Spanish-speaking only, and the promos showing her speaking English, we asked Showrunner Jennie Urman (Emily Owens, MD) which language Abuela Alba will be speaking on the show and she confirmed what we were hoping, “It will be Spanish, definitely!”
Jane the Virgin premieres Monday, October 13, at 9pm on The CW.
