“Iron Fist” Episode Review: I Am Iron Fist

“Iron Fist” delivers a solid action packed episode with “Immortal Emerges From Cave,” in which Danny is challenged to a battle with the Hand’s most fierce warriors, while Colleen and Claire try to save the Chemist’s life. Ward’s drug addiction gets out of hand.

This episode, directed by RZA, featured more action than the first half of the season combined. It was almost like a video game, pitting Danny against fighter after fighter to save Sabina’s life. This led to a dilemma as Madame Gao offered to give up Sabina if he lets her walk away. It’s always fun to see a hero wrestle with a moral decision, and even cooler, Danny didn’t seem okay with his decision, seeing as his whole life has been about ending this battle.

Then there was the whole Ward on drugs stuff, which detracted from the otherwise epic episode. Yes, seeing a severed head on a spike would mess anyone up, but Ward smashing his hand in a car door (!) just to get painkillers was nothing we haven’t seen in a bad addiction story before. Plus, it didn’t really help the main storyline.

“Immortal Emerges From Cave” was a real action driven episode, exactly what you’d expect from “Iron Fist.” Hopefully, the season is moving towards a grand payoff here, as this was essentially the turning point for our hero.
