This episode finally put the Danny v. Meachum conflict to bed as Danny worked with Hogarth, in a cameo from Carrie-Anne Moss, to set the record straight. Seeing Hogarth come back after a lengthy absence from “Jessica Jones” was fun and seeing her work for the good guys was a new dimension for the character.
At first, it seemed hopeless, as Ward sent men to destroy the X-Ray from Danny’s childhood that could’ve saved the day, but good ol Joy covertly gives Danny the proof he needs. This not only showed that Joy is not as ruthless as her brother, despite her bribing a businessman with a life saving operation for his son, but led to a tense showdown between Danny and Ward in the restaurant where Danny finally snaps.
We also saw Colleen finally enter the ring in an impressive fight scene that finally gives her something meaty to do in the story, now that she is fighting for money. Danny also tries to get into Harold’s secret penthouse, but gets tossed out the window for a literal cliffhanger.
“Rolling Thunder Cannon Punch” was a step in the right direction for the series, with more intense drama and some good action. It also plugs along the plot train and finally gets the pervasive conflict to a new level.
Iron Fist is available to stream on Netflix.
