“The Gifted” Recap: That’s Why the Pawns Go First

“The Gifted” only gets more and more intense! After last week’s tense prison break, “boXed In” gets crazier and adds more drama to the mix.

The 7/15 Incident | Kicking things off is a flashback to July 15th, as Turner is at the park with his wife and daughter when mutant protests downtown go wrong, creating an explosion that vaporizes Turner’s daughter, Grace. In present day, Marcos and Lorna try to distract the incoming Sentinel Services men and literally run into Turner. Lorna ends up capturing Turner to try to get information from him about Pulse and coerces Clarice to teleport Dreamer to rummage through Turner’s mind to find out.

Dreamer casts a cloud of pink smoke around Turner’s head, exposing all of his memories, but Sentinel Services men arrive, forcing them to leave in the middle of the process. Turner goes home to his wife, having forgotten that Grace died. And his wife has to remind him that his daughter is gone. Brutal stuff.

Where Do You Stand? | Reed returns to the Mutant Underground headquarters, which is flooded with mutants from other safe houses that Sentinel Services raided. Among these mutants is Dave, who was transporting Reed and other mutants when Reed confessed to helping Turner. Dave is pissed at Reed and refuses to help him, but is forced to transport him as part of a plan to throw the police off the Underground’s trail. Reed goes out in public to throw off the cops, but Dave at first seems to have scram. Fortunately, he just turned the getaway car invisible and helps Reed escape.

Clarice, having witnessed Dreamer’s powers, puts two and two together and figures out that Dreamer messed with her head and is understandably pissed, ordering Dreamer to stay away from her. Caitlin also stitched up a wounded mutant, with help from Lauren and Andy, the former using her powers to keep pressure on a torn artery.

“The Gifted” airs Mondays at 9pm on Fox.
