Stitchers Boss Previews Season 2, Kirsten’s Emotional Journey

In 2015, ABC Family debuted a new series unlike any other seen on the teen-skewing cabler. Stitchers, a sci-fi drama about a young government agency recruit used to investigate murders and mysteries, introduced viewers to a new genre show different from anything else on the network.

OMFGTV sat down with Stitchers Creator and Executive Producer Jeffrey Schechter, where he previewed Kirsten’s journey, Season 2’s slow burn and more.

“Season one was Kirsten’s journey about not really having emotions,” Schechter explained. “We see episode by episode that she becomes more emotionally accessible. So if season one was about her developing emotions, season two is… about now that I have all of these emotions, how do you deal with emotions?

“For someone who has never had adult emotions before to suddenly now have all of them at one time, what does that do for a person? Also in a way, season one was a creation of her family and now that I have that family, what do you do with that family? So we’re trying to make it about her character and everyone’s character growth.”

The series’ upcoming season on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) will deal with how everyone is relating to each other. The “slow burn” for season two will explore who is and isn’t right for each other and whether or not it’s a good idea for those who do end up together.

“Dealing with family and dealing with emotions, we’re going to make it grow as a character based arc every week,” he continued. “And the cases themselves will be more intricate, a little harder to solve. We have a very smart group of characters and we’re going to push them harder than we did in season one.”

One of the burning questions from Season One had to do with The Stitchers program itself. Jeffrey Schechter promised that “we’re going to start getting to the truth” about the program.

“It has a much bigger indication than anyone has ever anticipated,” he said. “It’s funny, the show came together so quickly. It was ordered at the end of April, we started shooting the Pilot in June, [ABC Family] picked it up in September and all throughout that time, none of the producers asked, ‘What is the purpose of the Stitchers program?'”

Luckily the show will start to answer some of those questions.

Stitchers airs Tuesdays at 10pm on Freeform.
