The first half of Freeform’s Siren ended with an explosive cliffhanger. The closing moments of the mermaid drama’s mid-season finale left the fate of the lives of three characters up in the air. Not only was Helen’s romantic interest seemingly offed, but there were no more than two humans aboard the North Star when it was engulfed in flames. Who survived the finale and makes it out alive when the show returns this summer? OMFGTV offers our insight.
SARGE | Hugo Ateo
During the takedown of the Klesco Oil & Gas company, it appeared that Sarge was the latest of the mer-people who was killed off. Moments after an anchor struck directly across his throat in the ocean, he was dragged off by his fellow mers somewhere off screen. Was he taken to their underwater cemetery for burial?

We’re hoping that the mer-people finally has trust in Ben & Maddie and the other humans and that they were taking Sarge up to shore for help from them. Hopefully they make it in time to save him so that he can continue his budding relationship with Helen (Rena Owen)!
However, from the looks of this Helen-centric promo for the upcoming episodes, it appears she has a lot coming up, and instead of focusing on developing that Helen-Sarge relationship even further on top of what’s coming up, we think it’ll be a little too much for Helen. So we’re thinking he probably doesn’t survive and the rest of the season, Helen’s busy with her family secrets coming to haunt her.
XANDER | Ian Verdun
Yes, Xander was on board the North Star when it blew up, but do we think he dies? Not a chance. They had already killed off his father, so having Xander killed off as well would be kind of messed up. We’re looking forward to more of Xander and now that he knows the truth about Nicole and her motives, we can’t wait to see what happens next between the two!
CALVIN | Curtis Lum
If anyone had to die, I would immediately guess & suggest Calvin. I can’t count how many times I thought he was going to die in Season 1. Nothing against the actor or anything, but Calvin is a poorly-developed character whose most onscreen time involves him having sex with his girlfriend. He is completely expendable. If he survives, we hope his character gets interesting — fast.
NORTH STAR
This one is a bonus one that I never thought I’d be writing about. The title for the mid-season premiere is “No North Star,” which pretty much sounds like Xander’s boat is pretty much obliterated. If the finale’s “deadly” teases were referring to North Star “dying” and everyone else — Sarge, Xander & Calvin — make it out alive, then shoot me now.
