In last week’s episode of Freeform drama Siren, a vengeful Xander (Ian Verdun) was dead set on murdering Levi, a warrior merman responsible for the death of his father. When the young fisherman’s attempt to kill was thwarted by Ben (Alex Roe), his bullet had unintentionally hit another of the sea creatures — Ryn’s sister Donna (Sibongile Mlambo).
To get more information about what goes down in tonight’s finale of the mermaid series in regards to Donna, Helen and all the other mer-craziness, OMFGTV called up actress Rena Owen, who plays Helen Hawkins, for some scoop!
“She’s not doing good; she’s obviously been shot,” the international award-winning actress tells us about Donna’s status at the beginning of the episode. “Ryn’s desperate and Ben proceeds to call Decker because Decker has Donna’s stem cells. Obvioulsy the wounds and everything have been cleaned. We’re there, myself, Ben and Ryn there with Donna in Helen’s apartment and Decker arrives with the stem cells and proceeds to give them to Donna.” As for whether or not she survives, you’re going to have to watch and find out!
Throughout Siren‘s inaugural season, we’ve watched as both Ben and Decker (Ron Yuan) were both hypnotized by Ryn (Eline Powell) and Donna’s alluring Siren song. Earlier this year, Roe revealed at WonderCon that the season will show different bits about what the song actually does. In tonight’s finale, titled, “Aftermath,” much, much more information about the song and its effects will surface.

“It can be used in a lot of different ways,” Owen explains about the Siren song. “It can be dangerous, it can become an obsession, it can make someone fall in love with them.
“It is somewhat still very connected to the legends of Sirens and their songs. So there’s not necessarily anything new in terms of what people have always believed about Sirens and the song they sing.
“It’s different though,” she continues. “It’s very, very different. It does different things to different people. The song can mean great love, but for others it can be dangerous. We all know that both Decker and Ben have been sirened and it could affect them in different ways or could affect them in very similar ways.”
Finally, in a previous episode, Helen mentioned to Ben’s father Ted (David Cubitt) that the two were family. Since then, fans have been wildly speculating the connection between the two. Is Ted Pownall secretly a merman as well?! And what about Helen? What’s her story? What other secrets have she been hiding?
“You are going to get juicy specifics and those questions are going to be answered,” she assures us. “There’s been a lot of theories [around the fandom] and some are just so far removed from what actually goes down and some are pretty spot on or pretty close to it. It’s good back story. It’s specific and it’s juicy.”
As a bonus, Rena Owen shares that the recently announced Season 2 (!) will introduce new characters, and reveals that viewers are “going to learn about one of those new characters before the end” of tonight’s finale.
“A lot gets set up in episode 10. It’s almost like how could you not do a Season 2, because there’s a lot of things left in the air in episode 10!”
Siren “Aftermath” airs tonight at 8pm on Freeform.
