Freeform’s “Motherland: Fort Salem” Conjures Up Your Next Obsession

Freeform’s newest show Motherland: Fort Salem premieres in just a few days, and trust me when I say that this show will be your next big obsession! OMFGTV has previewed the first six episodes of the season and immediately fell in love with the characters and story being told. You’ll want to watch this show over and over again!

If you’re unfamiliar, the shows’ premise is as follows: Witches weren’t killed back during the Salem Witch Trials, instead they now run the American Army and society as a whole is very matriarchal. Motherland: Fort Salem follows three new recruits who take the oath and join the Army, but what they face may not be quite what they expected.

One of the things I found the most joy in while watching is the amount of diversity and representation on screen and just how many ladies there really are in the show, and just how much sexuality doesn’t really matter. Definitely a very queer-friendly show.

Another interesting thing about this show is how the witches use their powers. The majority of it is done by making tones with their vocal cords, like singing but way cooler, and they harmonize with each other to use their powers and sing up powerful storms.

This show is also very sex forward and positive! The young witches are not only interested in sex, but are encouraged to do it. It’s something even their witches marks are tied to it. They also have an amazing dance scene that’s definitely sensual.

The main enemy this season is an evil faction of witches called the Spree. The Spree use their powers to cause chaos and widespread panic. You will never be able to look at blue balloons the same way again.

Meet the Recruits:

Raelle Collar | Raelle is the daughter of a healer who takes the oath not just to fight for her country, but also to find out more about her mother’s death.

She is gay AF and definitely someone I would have looked up to when I was in high school. She’s fearless, rebellious, and would die for those she loves. She also meets a cute girl who you will probably ship her with immediately!

Tally Craven | Tally takes the oath against her families wishes, but is extremely proud of what she’s doing.

She is pretty innocent and naive due to her upbringing, but quickly adapts to life at Fort Salem. Tally is boy-crazy and very fun-loving.

Abigail Bellweather | The Daughter of a famous General, Abigail is a natural born leader.

She is very orderly, loyal, and a strict rule follower. She is also very strategic and incredibly smart.

Motherland: Fort Salem premieres Wednesday March 18th at 9pm on Freeform, and you definitely won’t want to miss these incredible witches!
