“You have no idea what this place is.”

That’s a warning given to one of the camp counselors in Freeform’s buzzy new series Dead of Summer. So what exactly is “this place”? One of its stars, Amber Coney, breaks it down.

Dead of Summer is about Camp Stillwater and the ominous things that start to manifest,” Coney says. “It’s about the dark mythology that awakens to all of our surprise. We think it’s just going to be a summer of fun.”

For Coney’s character Cricket, her summer is off to a great start. Unfortunately, the fun is just temporary.

“I’m excited to hook up with a guy,” she says of Cricket. “I’m excited to go swimming in my bikini and finally do that for the first time, and hang out with my best friend Blair. Lo and behold, all these creepy things start to take place and it becomes something way further than what we anticipate.”

What Amber does anticipate is that those who tune in will adore the show.

“Viewers are going to love this because they’re not going to know what to expect and they’re going to be drawn in by all of the awesome characters that are on the screen that are portrayed by my wonderful cast mates, and by the crazy, mysterious, horrific things that happen.”
