Very little is known about Freeform’s highly anticipated new series Dead of Summer. And with good reason: Everyone involved has been tight-lipped about the upcoming anthology series. That is until now.

Speaking with The Sheena Metal Experience, Dead of Summer‘s Consulting Producer Richard Hatem likens the new show to an old classic favorite and reveals one major, juicy detail!

freeform-dead-of-summer-richard-hatem“There’s a summer camp, but the camp is a lot,” Hatem says on the talk show. “It’s like The Shining.”

“These counselors go there and they used to be campers and the camp closed. Now it reopened and now they’re all 19 and they come back to have another summer as counselors and strange things start to happen.”

Here’s where it gets really interesting: “There’s something sort of in the lake, in the dirt, in the air, that manifests in various ways,” Hatem reveals.

Viewers got their possible first look at this manifestation in the latest teaser for the show, which features a young couple going for a dip in Camp Stillwater’s eponymous lake.

Horror icon Tony Todd is keeping his role under wraps. Could he very well be the primary form of this supernatural entity Producer Richard Hatem is speaking of?

We’re calling it now: Elizabeth Mitchell’s character, Deb, who is the new owner of Camp Stillwater is not human! We’re predicting Deb is just one of the “various” forms the entity becomes. That would be a great twist!

Finally, if any of you are still not sold on the series created by Once Upon a Time‘s Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz, and Ian Goldberg, Hatem promises that “it’s really fun!”

dead-of-summer-101-pilot-like-a-prayer-1Set in the late 1980s, school is out for the summer, and a sun-drenched season of firsts beckons the counselors at Camp Stillwater, a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp, including first loves, first kisses—and first kills. Stillwater’s dark, ancient mythology awakens, and what was supposed to be a summer of fun soon turns into one of unforgettable scares and evil at every turn.

The series stars Elizabeth Mitchell (“Lost,” ”The Purge: Election Year”), Elizabeth Lail (“Once Upon a Time”), Zelda Williams (“Teen Wolf”), Mark Indelicato (“Ugly Betty”), Alberto Frezza (“Charlie’s Angels”), Eli Goree (“The 100”), Ronen Rubinstein (“Orange Is the New Black”), Amber Coney (“Class”) and Paulina Singer (“Gotham”).

Dead of Summer premieres Tuesday, June 28 at 9pm on Freeform.
