Dead of Summer Begins Production, Camp Gets New Name

Lights. Camera. Action!

Freeform’s genre bending series Dead of Summer began production in Vancouver, Canada, the network announced Monday.

In addition to the announcement, the teen-skewing network has given “Camp Clearwater” a new name, most likely due to the fact that a Camp Clearwater already exists in real life. The series will now take place in “Camp Stillwater.”

From Adam Horowitz, Edward Kitsis and Ian Goldberg, the masterminds behind ABC’s hit drama Once Upon a Time, the highly anticipated, bold, new show examines the light and dark of a summer like no other.

Set in the late 1980s, school is out for the summer, and a sun-drenched season of firsts beckons the counselors at Camp Stillwater, a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp, including first loves, first kisses—and first kills. Stillwater’s dark, ancient mythology awakens, and what was supposed to be a summer of fun soon turns into one of unforgettable scares and evil at every turn.

The series stars Elizabeth Mitchell (“Lost,” ”The Purge: Election Year”), Elizabeth Lail (“Once Upon a Time”), Zelda Williams (“Teen Wolf”), Mark Indelicato (“Ugly Betty”), Alberto Frezza (“Charlie’s Angels”), Eli Goree (“The 100”), Ronen Rubinstein (“Orange Is the New Black”), Amber Coney (“Class”) and Paulina Singer (“Gotham”).

Edward Kitsis is set to direct the series’ first episode.

Dead of Summer is coming soon to Freeform.
