“You’re Going to See Some Surprises!”
That’s a promise Eli Goree intends to keep. The actor, who can currently be seen on Freeform’s freshman series Dead of Summer, along with Elizabeth Mitchell (ABC’s LOST) recently sat down with the press — OMFGTV included — to chat about tonight’s CRAZY episode!
Prior to meeting up with the press, the cast and producers of the supernatural thriller screened the entire fifth episode (Like we predicted!) “How to Stay Alive in the Woods” to a packed audience. OMFGTV was there for the first few minutes– and from what little we saw, we can say it was absolutely insane!
“As to who she is, I don’t know that we really know yet and I think that’s really fun. Episode 5 is a bit of a game changer for Deb because we’re now going to see her rather than this perception of her. It’s tricky.”
Tonight’s episode will give viewers a peek into Joel’s life prior to present day 1989. For Eli Goree, he’s incredibly excited for you to see what’s in store!

“When you see where he comes from and where he’s coming out of — I know it doesn’t make sense now — but when you see the episode, you’re going to be like, ‘Ohhhhhhh. Okay, I’m glad they showed me that because it makes the stakes that much higher,'” he continues.
“Everything about my backstory surprised me. So if that tells you anything, it’s a huge shock. I don’t think people are going to see it coming what happens.”
Throughout the episodes, we’ve been teased with brief appearances by the Tall Man. For fans of his portrayer Tony Todd, rest assured that he plays a much bigger role in tonight’s episode!
And hold the phone, because we will FINALLY get to hear the Tall Man talk! “Yeah, he does speak indeed!” Dead of Summer co-creator Edward Kitsis tells us. “He does have quite a voice!” adds co-creator Ian Goldberg.
As for Joel and Deb’s relationship, Goree says “you’re going to see some more stuff coming up for sure.”
Remember the first few minutes we saw? There’s a really big revelation in that alone! “It came on fast and furious,” explains Goree. “It went from zero to a hundred. In this episode coming up, a lot of things will make more sense.”
“At the end of my episode, the entire audience screamed out loud. So I think it’s going to be a pretty good one.”
Dead of Summer airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Freeform.
