“Beyond” Exclusive: Burkely Duffield Previews What Dreams May Come, Teases “Big Danger”

Imagine being in a coma and waking up twelve years later with astrophysical abilities. That’s exactly what happened to Holden Matthews in Freeform’s Beyond. After he wakes up, he’s caught up in a dangerous conspiracy and it’s up to him to keep his loved ones safe.

To get more insight on the new season, OMFGTV hopped on the phone with the series’ leading man Burkely Duffield, who plays Holden, where he previews what dreams may come in the two-hour season premiere.

“[Holden] definitely has some haunting dreams again that you see very early on,” Duffield tells us. “He’s not quite sure but he’s worried that once again they will have a premeditative sort of ideal around them.”

Last season on Beyond, after Holden awoke from his coma, he spent his time trying to figure out his place in his new world. He soon discovered his super cool powers and had dreams that would indicate the future.

“This year, as you see very early on, a lot of his dreams show a lot of danger for himself, his family and for a lot of people that he loves, so he may not be sure what’s coming this season,” he explains. “He’s definitely enforced through his dreams that it’s going to be one big danger that he should be very wary of.”

In the midst of all this, Holden’s father Tom Matthews (Michael McGrady) was alerted by Jeff McArdle (Jeff Pierre) that the same people who killed his brother, want Holden. Tom does extensive research on Hollow Sky, trying to figure out what they want.

Through his findings, he decides to confide in Diane Matthews (Romy Rosemont) and they tell the police. But, with no evidence, they come to a crashing halt. The police officer does agree to look at the case but it doesn’t seem promising.

“You see Tom, last year, being worried about Holden and trying to put these pieces of this very elusive puzzle together,” Duffield says. “You will continue to see him and Diane teaming up to see what’s really going on with their son Holden.”

Hopefully, Holden makes the right choices this season.

“As parents, they want to make sure he’s safe so you will see them continue on that journey together, trying to figure out what’s going on,” he previews. “At the same time, Holden’s trying to keep in that dark as long as possible because he, himself, wants to keep his parents safe.”

Beyond Season 2 premieres Thursday, January 18, at 8pm on Freeform.
