“Beyond” Exclusive: Dilan Gwyn on Willa When [Spoiler] Goes Missing, Plus Can the Machine Be Saved?
Tonight’s all-new episode of Freeform’s Beyond is a big one for Willa. In the episode, titled “Knock, Knock,” she gets much closer to someone she loves, while another one she loves becomes distant — distant to the point where he disappears.
OMFGTV spoke with Willa’s portrayer Dilan Gwyn (“Da Vinci’s Demons”) Thursday morning to get more intel about what viewers can expect.
In the fourth episode of Beyond‘s second season, Willa’s grandfather goes missing. It’s a family emergency that Willa just can’t ignore. With Arthur being the only family she has left, Gwyn says that the situation is an “extremely heavy burden” for her to bear.
RELATED | “It is a very exhausting episode for [Willa],” Gwyn tells us. “The way I see it, she’s been more of an assistant than a granddaughter. That’s all she’s ever known. To be on the brink of losing all that you’ve ever known and also realizing that if she does lose him, that she’ll be completely alone in the world.
“It really hits her really hard that she will be alone. She doesn’t have any relatives, she doesn’t have any friends, she only has herself. It’s a very emotionally exhausting episode for her for sure.”
Before he went missing, we’ve seen Arthur work tirelessly to try to repair the damage that Holden caused to his realm-traveling machine. Could his disappearance be related?

We’ll have to wait until tonight’s episode to find out. But as far as repairing the machine, Gwyn tells us that even though Willa’s life has been dedicated to the realm, fixing the machine or not has her torn.
“She’s not sure if it’s something that they should do or not,” she explains. “I think it’s hard for her to let [the realm] go, but at the same time, she wants to have this normal life. I think she’s not sure that it’s a good thing to fix the machine.
“All of a sudden he’s very, very, very obsessed with fixing the machine,” Gwyn continues. “She doesn’t understand why all of a sudden. She doesn’t know how to deal with any of it. In terms of if he can fix it? I don’t know. We’ll see what happens. But he’ll try for sure. That’s all he’s thinking about.”
