FOX Unveils New 2-Minute “X-Files” Trailer
What a great time to be an X-Phile! To the uninitiated, an “X-Phile” is a fan of Fox’s long-running sci-fi conspiracy series “The X-Files”. Unless you have been living under a rock, you might know that the show, which had gone off the air in 2002, is returning on January 24, 2016. With the revival’s first episode “My Struggle” getting a sneak preview at New York Comic-Con in under two weeks, Fox released a two-part teaser during Gotham and Minority Report on Monday night. It was followed up by the first official trailer which debuted online Tuesday!
Right away, we see that the conspiracy element will be a big part of this revival. This is good news to X-Philes who were disappointed by the procedural story of 2008’s X-Files movie “I Want To Believe”. Joel McHale (“Community”) starts the narration of this 2 minute trailer, talking about a nefarious plan being put into action by a secret army using alien technology. Now the help of FBI’s most unwanted agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) is needed to expose this plan.
But if Mulder is coming up against the schemes of our shadow government again, he will need the help of his longtime partner, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). In the trailer, we see hints that this relationship has gone south and Mulder is going to have to clean up his act before anyone takes him seriously. But, in today’s age of surveillance and drone attacks, it looks like Mulder may be at his most paranoid. This is a trait that Scully calls out to Mulder. She has seen this before, and it may be the reason they aren’t the happily-vacationing couple we last saw them as in the second movie.
Is Mulder too paranoid or are Scully’s warnings of him being on dangerous ground something that he should take heed of? Come on, Mulder is always right! All in all, this was an exciting trailer for X-Philes like myself, but it hopefully will be enough to bring younger viewers in as well! Fox’s latest campaign of the “201 Days of The X-Files” has made many fire up classic episodes on Netflix. This trailer is certainly thrilling enough to seal the deal!
