“The Fosters” Spring Finale Recap: Getting Away
Freeform’s The Fosters aired its spring finale [and 100th episode!!!] for the show’s final season with a 2-episode ending that tied up all the different storylines. Not only did we get to see Callie and Brandon graduate, but they also showed all the high school graduations of all the kids in the Adams Foster household! ‘Just Say Yes’ was written and directed by Joanna Johnson, and ‘Many Roads’ was written by Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg and directed by Peter Paige.
Jude | Jude (Hayden Byerly) continues to go behind his moms backs and game with Declan (Tyler Alvarez). They have a meet and greet with fans and Jude notices just how rude Declan really is. He doesn’t actually care about their fans, he just loves the attention. With a lovely call-back to season 1, Lena (Sherri Saum) finds Jude painting his nails. She takes over and he confesses to her that he’s been gaming even though he said he quit. To fix the mess he’s gotten himself into, Jude ends up quitting Imminent Power, and at the graduation he fixes things with Noah (Kalama Epstein).
Jesus | Jesus (Noah Centineo) is pretty bummed he’s not going to be a senior with his sister next year. Cue Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) dragging him to the backyard where we see pretty much everyone we know, ready and willing to help Jesus build his treehouse so he can be a senior next year. He even gets some closure with his birth father, Gabe (Brandon Quinn).
Mariana | Mariana and Emma (Amanda Leighton) are both tirelessly working on their robots, but Emma is struggling with her sensors whereas Mariana’s robot is a tremendous success. Jesus asks Mariana to help Emma, and at first she refuses, but later she realizes women need to stick together and helps her BFF out. Mariana’s help ends up getting Emma the internship and not Mariana, possibly killing her MIT dreams.

Mariana is still dating both Wyatt (Alex Saxon) and Logan (Christopher Meyer), but at graduation she runs into Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) who hints that they could have a future if she does end up at MIT.
Brandon | Brandon has an interview at the Musicians Institute in LA and Grace (Meg DeLacy) goes with him so they can drive to her moms together after. After his interview they play an impromptu show on the streets of Hollywood, take lots of pictures, and watch the sunset on the beach. Grace hasn’t told him that her treatment didn’t work and she’s dying. But when they get to her mom’s he finds out the truth. Grace wants him to go back home and live his life, he can still come see her on weekends, but she needs to be with her family now.
Right before graduations Grace takes a turn for the worse. B goes up to be with her in her final hours and plays a beautiful song as she passes. He can’t handle going home, so he goes to Coachella, where Callie eventually finds him and convinces him not to miss graduation.
Callie | Callie has been through a lot this season, most of it revolving helping Ximena (Lisseth Chavez) and her family and whether she gets into art school or not. We know she didn’t get into UCSD’s art program, but now she’s interested in their law program. Unfortunately it is too late for her to apply this year, Dr. Kim (Eric Steinberg) is willing to speak up for her next year to get her in, but there’s nothing left he can do this year. Callie is bummed, but turns her attention towards helping Ximena’s parents.
Callie’s found a way for the Sinfuegoes to stay, but they need an ICE agent to testify in court. Good thing Callie knows where to find one of those! Bad thing is, he doesn’t want to help. That’s when Callie and Aaron (Elliot Fletcher) “you’ve been served” him and hand him a subpoena. ICE doesn’t want their agent on trial, so they pull some strings and get Ximena’s family a stay of removal, allowing them to stay in the country and continue to try to get citizenship.
Callie’s efforts end up earning her that spot in UCSD’s law program that she wanted, unfortunately it did not help her get Aaron back. He’s decided he wants to see where things go with Amanda (Jonna Walsh).
The episode ends with short jumps to each kids graduation and is a wonderful way to wrap up a show like this one. Though there are still 3 episodes coming this summer to really wrap up the series, this finale really did a good job wrapping up the show all on its own.
