“The Fosters” Recap: Trouble for the Newlyweds?

The Fosters tackles another huge issue this week following Callie and Aaron to LA and seeing how his family is dealing with his transition. Things back home aren’t so great either, Stef is working long hours leaving Lena alone to deal with everything. ‘Dirty Laundry’ was written by Megan Lynn and Wade Solomon, and directed by Laura Nisbet Peters.

Road Trip | Callie (Maia Mitchell) gets her court date, and it’s in one week. She knows she’s going to have to take a plea if she can’t prove Troy’s alibi is fake, but in order to do that she needs to go to LA to talk to his alibi’s ex-husband. Aaron (Elliot Fletcher) is going to LA to have dinner with his family for his dads birthday and offers to take Callie along to act as  buffer and to check out the alibi.

Callie meets Aaron’s family, his little brother is awesome and his mother is having a difficult time adjusting to his transition, but his father is completely refusing to acknowledge his sons transition. Callie can’t take seeing Aaron treated that way, so she stands up to his father for him. But that isn’t what he wanted, he goes to bed pissed off at her. Callie runs into Aaron’s mom in the middle of the night in the kitchen and ends up having an incredible conversation with her. She really helps his mother begin to understand his transition. When Aaron realizes what happened he kisses her, and she kisses him back. She’s rebounding fast!

As they are leaving Aaron says he was able to check out Troy’s alibi, and Callie’s right, it was most likely faked.

Uneven Workload | Due to Stef’s (Teri Polo) new position Lena (Sherri Saum) is left to make all the tough decisions herself. And let me tell you, she has some tough decisions she has to make quickly, but the two biggest ones she makes this episode are letting Gabe move into the garage, and talking to Jesus’s (Noah Centineo) doctor about him having sex.

Lena has to have one of the most awkward phone conversations of her life to ask if her 16 year old with a TBI can resume sexual activity. But that awkward phone call can only be followed up by something even more awkward, which is having “the talk” with Jesus and Emma (Amanda Leighton), including all the new limitations.

Lena also decides its time for all the kids to be allowed to have closed doors when their significant others are over, she’d rather have them having safe sex in their house than somewhere random. She begins to implement this new rule with Jesus and Emma.

By the end of the episode Lena is looking ragged from everything she’s dealt with at home, and she finally addresses Stef about it. Stef understands and takes over doing the laundry. While doing it she finds Emma’s letter to Jesus that Brandon (David Lambert) took.

Other Family Drama:

  • Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) is the one who found Gabe and invited him to live in their garage so he wouldn’t have to move away.
  • Emma was hesitant about sex for Jesus and was the one who insisted he get cleared by his doctor first. But it turns out she has nothing to worry about, Jesus is having performance issues due to his medications.
  • Jesus can read again! His brain is healing!
  • Jude (Hayden Byerly) gets bullied and almost turns into a bully to get even, but Noah (Kalama Epstein) talks him out of it.
  • Brandon gave Jesus his room permanently in hopes of moving into the garage.

Stef found Emma’s note, how do you think she’ll handle this new information? With Gabe moving into the garage and Jesus taking over Brandon’s room permanently, where will B live? Will he continue to share a room with Jude or will he go somewhere else?

The Fosters airs Tuesdays at 8pm on FreeForm.
