The Fosters Recap | Jesus’ Homecoming
There was no holding back in the most recent episode of The Fosters, aptly titled “Cruel and Unusual”. Callie and Jesus both had a lot going on this week, stretching Stef and Lena to their limits. Here is OMFGTV‘s recap of what went down in episode 13, written by Anne Meredith and directed by Norman Buckley.
Big Day In Court | Callie Maia Mitchell) gets invited to another “party” by a guard, but is later warned that the guard is known for smuggling in bad drugs. One girl gets sick soon after that conversation and Callie gets her help, but refuses to say where the girl got the drugs. The guard corners Callie and makes it look like she attacked him so she would be put in solitary. Later, Callie and Stef (Teri Polo) meet with the lawyer to discuss Callie’s options. There is a deal on the table that won’t try her as an adult if she pleads guilty and likely stays in juvie until she’s 18. The positive side to this deal is that her record will be wiped clean when she’s released, the down side is that’s 8 months away and she’s not safe there. If she turns down the deal she would be tried in adult court, which would allow her to be released on bail, but if she’s convicted she would be faced with up to 5 years in prison and a record as a felon.
Callie turns down the deal, and the court rules against her, she will be tried as an adult. On the up side, she does get to go home until her trial. Now she can see her family and AJ (Tom Williamson) again and work on her defense.

Life With A TBI | Jesus (Noah Centineo) is awake and responsive, but he’s suffered a traumatic brain injury and it’s left him different than the Jesus we knew. He now has a hand tremor and leg twitches and will need assistance walking, along with some cognitive problems. He has difficulty identifying certain objects and storing information in his memory, he seems to forget things quickly. Stef and Lena (Sherri Saum) can’t bare to leave Jesus in a rehab facility so they bring him home where they can attend to him, but an incident happens and Jesus loses his temper and shatters a plate. The whole family is going to have to adjust to having Jesus home and staying positive, no matter his mood.
Parenting Gets Tougher | Brandon (David Lambert) finally tells his mother the truth about Julliard, and she is furious. But she’s not mad at just Brandon, but all the other kids as well. She feels they’re all keeping too many secrets, so she removes the doors from their rooms. Lena goes to work to get her things to work from the hospital when she runs into Monte (Annika Marks) who recommends she take a leave of absence. Lena shirks her off, then spots Jude (Hayden Byerly) with Noah (Kalama Epstein). Noah gave Jude something and Jude put it in his locker. Because of Jude and Noah’s history with marijuana Lena decides to check Jude’s locker. She was pleasantly surprised when she found a poorly written poem instead of a joint, and decides to let Jude date Noah again. Just as long as there’s no pot involved. She also decided to take Monte up on that leave of absence, someone has to take care of Jesus.
Other Important Moments:
• Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) broke up with Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) because he can no longer trust her.
• Emma (Amanda Leighton) didn’t buy a pregnancy test for Mariana, so was it for her?
• Mike (Danny Nucci) wants to adopt AJ and have Ana (Alexandra Barreto) move in.
Looks like Callie could face some real jail time for something she didn’t even know was illegal. But at least she’s home for the time being. And Jesus is home, hooray! Now is the time for the Adams-Foster family to come together and be strong for each other.
The Fosters airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Freeform.
