Focus Features is celebrating the upcoming Pride Month by releasing a feature film adaptation of pop singer Hayley Kiyoko’s bestselling debut novel, Girls Like Girls, based on her hit song, and now, we finally have the first trailer.
Directed and co written by Kiyoko herself, Girls Like Girls is, as the official synopsis reads: “A heartfelt coming-of-age story set over the course of one sun-drenched summer, where new girl in town Coley falls in love for the first time while learning to accept herself along the way.”
The cast features Maya Da Costa, Myra Malloy, Hunter Dillon, Levon Hawke, Maya Ford and Scrubs star Zach Braff. The film will also feature brand new music from Kiyoko, whose song of the same name features in the trailer.
Kiyoko began her career as an actress, best known for the Disney Channel Original Movie, Lemonade Mouth, and has guest starred on series such as The Vampire Diaries, Wizards of Waverly Place and The Fosters. Her first album, Expectations, released in 2018, followed by her 2022 album, Panorama. She has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and got engaged to her longtime partner Becca Tilley in July 2025.
Girls Like Girls hits theaters on June 19, just in time for Pride Month.
