The Flash Recap: Out of Your Mind

It’s the annual crossover and this year it is bigger than ever. The eighth episode this season of The Flash marks part two of the crossover event. When a spaceship full of aliens straight out of Independence Day show up in Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) realizes he needs the help of the everyone and calls on his friends in different cities, worlds, shows, etc. Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson), on behalf of Argus, fills Team Flash in that the aliens are called The Dominators and have visited Earth before (it went less than swimmingly last time as well). The aliens send a communication that any action against them will lead to retaliation but the UN wants to call their bluff. Barry first goes to Star City to pick up Oliver (Stephen Amell), Diggle (David Ramsey), Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), and Thea (Willa Holland). Felicity points out that it is only the four of them against honest to goodness aliens but Barry’s not done assembling the team yet. Next on the roster is Team Legends. Felicity gets a message to them and they appear at the (somehow?) secret Star Labs hanger. Barry and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) take a day trip to Earth 38 to get their own alien, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). She is delighted to see Barry again and absolutely ready to help them save the day.

Back at the hanger, Felicity does a roll call of the crossover participants. In addition to Teams Flash and Arrow, Team Legends has brought along Sara (Caity Lotz), Mick (Dominic Purcell), Ray (Brandon Routh), Stein (Victor Garber), and Jax (Franz Drameh). A breach opens and the rest of Team Flash and a single member of Team Supergirl (it would have been better with all of them but whatever) shows up. Barry introduces Supergirl to the rest of the gang and she shows exactly why it is she’s so super. Oliver wants them to use her as a stand-in to train against and even with it being everyone-on-one, she whoops them handily. Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) is upset about not being included on the Team Flash crossover roster and shows up at the hanger to ‘help’. He is intercepted by Iris (Candice Patton) who tells him (rightly so) that the it’s not about power, it’s about experience. The people in that hanger have been doing this for a while whereas Wally has been running laps for a week. He goes back to the lab and tries to convince H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) to train him in secret.

Stein and Jax pull Barry and Oliver aside to show them a message they found hidden in their ship. It is a recording of Future Barry warning them that Present Barry can’t be trusted. Barry fills them in on Flashpoint and the changes to the timeline. Stein discovers that in this new timeline he has a grown up daughter when he goes to see his wife and the daughter answers the door instead. Elsewhere, Lyla and some other government folk debate whether or not to act against the aliens. The Dominators attack and kidnap the president. So on Earth 1 the president ISN’T Wonderwoman? No wonder their Earth is so grumpy all the time. Cisco finds the message from Future Barry and makes Barry tell the entire group. Dig finds out that he used to have a daughter instead of a son. Sara is furious that Barry would go back and change things when she would give anything to go back and save her sister but knows she can’t without ruining other people’s lives. The team is furious at him and Barry opts to stay behind when they go to check out a lead on The Dominators. Oliver decides to stay behind with him. The rest of the team goes to a warehouse where they believe the president is being held. It is (obviously) a trap and The Dominators vaporize the president before using a device to mind control the entire team. They all fly over to Star Labs and begin attacking it. Oliver and Barry run outside and proceed to each fight three-on-one. Barry takes the fliers while Oliver takes the ground-bound teammates. Barry lures Supergirl to where the mind control device is and uses the whole ‘jump (or phase?) out of the way at the last second’ trick to have her destroy the device, freeing them all of the mind control. The team congregates outside but before they can celebrate, Ray, Thea, Sara, Diggle, and Oliver are beamed up (not by Scotty) onto a spaceship. TO BE CONTINUED ON ARROW!

OTHER THOUGHTS:
• I for one would take a Segway tour around Star Labs guided by H.R.
• Someone needs to hit Wally. Maybe a good solid smack (or ten) will knock some sense into him. I volunteer.
• Kara memorizing all the names of the other heroes ahead of time is one of the cutest things ever.

So what did you think of the second part of the Legends of Super Flarrow crossover event? Was it too crowded or just right? Are you excited for more crossovers in the future? Let us know in the comments below!
