“Fallout” Episode ‘The Ghouls’ Recap: Golden Rule, Motherf*cker

Things are getting crazier and more violent in this week’s Fallout, appropriately titled, “The Ghouls.” Lucy learns more about The Ghoul as the two trek across the Wasteland, while Norm recruits Chet for a mission to find out what happened to Vault 32.

Meet Roger | Picking up after last week’s episode, Lucy (Ella Purnell), still missing a shoe, and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) arrive at an abandoned medical clinic, where they see another Ghoul-like man named Roger (Neal Huff), who appears to be rotting away more so than The Ghoul. Roger asks for a vial, but The Ghoul is out, thanks to Lucy, and The Ghoul says that Roger is “turning.” As Roger tries to make small talk with Lucy, The Ghoul simply blows Roger’s brains out- and then eats Roger’s corpse, much to Lucy’s horror. To make matters worse, he makes Lucy carve up Roger’s body as blood splatters all over the main title.

Things Get Awkward | Back in Vault 33, Woody (Zach Cherry) is putting up posters encouraging people to vote for him as the next Overseer of the Vault. Betty (Leslie Uggams) goes to talk to Norm (Moises Arias), who vents to her about how he hid during the raid and didn’t help anybody. Outside, The Ghoul drags Lucy to a vat of irradiated water, which a desperate Lucy drinks from. As The Ghoul starts coughing, Lucy makes a run for it, but gets lassoed by The Ghoul, but Lucy bites his finger off. The Ghoul responds by slicing Lucy’s finger off with his knife, happy that they finally had an “honest conversation.” Unfortunately, that’s not the most disturbing thing that happens this episode.

Back in the Vault, Steph (Annabel O’Hagen) dresses Chet (Dave Register) up in her dead husband’s clothes and tries to make love to him, but her water breaks as they do so. The Ghoul takes Lucy to the Super Duper Mart and sends her inside before he passes out. Once inside, Lucy is met by a medical robot, who is happy to see her and replaces her missing finger with a severed one from his drawer. Lucy is happy that someone is showing her kindness, saying that she thought she was being sold as a sex slave, and the robot says that’s ridiculous- he’s just going to harvest her organs. Before Lucy can react, he tranquilizes her.

As Norm is feeding the Raiders imprisoned in the Vault, one of them tells him that Vault 32 was up to something. Norm recruits Chet to head to Vault 32 and they see dead crops everywhere, as well as impaled corpses. Norm finds evidence that the Vault 32 dwellers have been dead for two years as they find more and more corpses, as well as blood written message saying “We know the truth.”

Never Be Like You | As Lucy is being hauled to the operating room by the robot, she sees more Ghoul-likes locked up in freezers and two guys sitting there, who seem cool with the whole thing. Lucy manages to break free of her restraints and electrocute the robot. She orders the two guys to set the Ghouls free and they’re happy to leave, save for three of them, who attack and rip the guys to shreds. One of them tries to talk to Lucy and she tries to talk the Ghoul down, but is forced to shoot her, much to her horror.

Back in Vault 32, Norm breaks into the Vault’s computer and sees that the Vault was opened from the outside- by Rose Maclean. Speaking of the Macleans, Lucy, now blood stained and loaded with supplies, approaches The Ghoul outside and realizes that without the vials he needs, he’ll become a mindless zombie like the others. She insists that she’ll never be like him and hands over the vials he needs and leaves him there. The Ghoul heads inside, revitalized by the vials, and takes the whole lot of vials from the dead men inside. He then puts a tape in the TV set, which plays an old movie of Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), which he watches with interest.
