Fallout ventures out to the Wasteland in episode two, “The Target,” which reveals the man everyone is after. As Lucy, Maximus and The Ghoul all converge on the target in question, it all goes to hell in what may be my favorite new show of the year so far. Here we go!
Dog Lovers, Avert Your Eyes | Beginning our pleasant episode is- puppies being thrown into an incinerator!!! Yikes! A man (Michael Emerson), runs a lab breeding dogs to obey human orders He takes one dog in particular and raises her, giving her a teddy bear to play with- before shoving a needle into his own head and cauterizing the wound! There’s a glowing something-or-other inside the needle which is now inside his neck. He orders the dog to hide when someone else comes into his lab and sees what he’s done, but the dog mauls the man to death and then acts like the sweetest dog in the world. He tries to flee the lab as sirens go off and narrowly avoids getting shot by an automated gun.
Elsewhere, Lucy (Ella Purnell) explores the Wasteland and goes into a ruined building, where she sees the skeletons of a family having dinner, including children and baby skeletons. Worse, she sees an empty bottle of poison on the table. As dusk falls, she makes camp and drifts to sleep, until she is woken up by the very same dog from the intro, who kills a giant bug that was coming for her. The dog’s owner is waiting there for her, and he tells her that Vault Dwellers are endangered. Lucy refuses to leave without her father and the man asks if she’ll still want the same thing after she “becomes a different animal altogether” before he and the dog leave.
Knights and Cowards | Maximus (Aaron Moten) is flying on the plane across the Wasteland and tries to make small talk with the man in armor sitting next to him (Michael Rapaport), named Knight Titus, which doesn’t go well. The armored man orders the pilot to set them down in the middle of nowhere and he takes Maximus down with him to the surface as the plane flies off and they venture onwards. The man and his dog sit down for a breather, but the dog runs off and comes back with a severed bloody hand in her mouth as the man hears a roar from the distance.

Sometime later, Maximus and Titus arrive at the very same spot and Titus orders Maximus to check out the cave, just as a giant werewolf looking thing attacks Titus. Titus immediately runs for his damn life and nearly gets killed by the werewolf, before Maximus kills it with one bullet. Titus whines on and on to Maximus and even blames him for the attack and says that he’ll be hung when he returns for disobeying his order. Maximus is ashamed that Titus is a Knight, but vows to bring back the target.
Lucy comes across a man in the desert who drinks all of her water before he gives her directions to a nearby town. Then, Maximus tries on Titus’s armor and runs amok with it on the ruins of old houses, until he sees two men fighting and intervenes, breaking up the fight as one man runs away. The other man begs for mercy from Maximus and tells him that the other guy was having sex with his chickens. Huh.
This Town Ain’t Big Enough for All of Us | Lucy arrives at the town, where she sees lots of survivors holed up in wrecked planes and buses and one guy selling fried lizards. She heads through a pile of wrecked space shuttles which gives way to a cobbled together town, where The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) is watching her every move. Lucy heads into a shop selling Vault equipment and asks the store owner, Ma June (Dale Dickey), if she’s seen Moldaver or her dad. Ma June immediately refuses to talk when she hears the name Moldaver and chastises Lucy for hiding out in the Vault while everyone above suffered. As she leaves, the man and his dog arrive and he tells her to go home.

Ma June recognizes the man as Wilzig and tries to hide him, but The Ghoul sits up at the mention of the name. He reveals the bounty on Wilzig’s head and then blows Wilzig’s foot off with one shot! Ma June offers a thousand caps to whoever kills The Ghoul, but he slaughters everyone who comes for him in mere seconds. In the chaos, Lucy sneaks into Ma June’s office and sees he rolls with Moldaver’s name on it. The Ghoul nibbles on some tomatoes before shooting Ma June and then- apologies in advance- stabbing Wilzig’s dog.
Lucy attempts to go up against The Ghoul, but he prepares to kill her, until Maximus arrives and take the bullet for Lucy and asks her to save Wilzig while he faces The Ghoul. Lucy gets Wilzig and Ma June inside and is smitten with Maximus, asking if he’s a Knight, as Ma June straps a metal foot onto Wilzig’s severed leg. Ma June offers Lucy a chance to get to Moldaver in exchange for taking Wilzig to her. She programs Lucy’s wrist device with Moldaver’s location as Lucy and Wilzig sneak out the back.
The Ghoul traps Maximus and disables his suit before strapping a hook to the suit, tethering him. He manages to escape, but crashes the suit nearby, as The Ghoul sees that the dog is still alive and he injects her with a shot that heals her. Unfortunately, he then follows the dog as it heads off to find her owner. In the desert, near the ruined LAX, Wilzig’s robot leg starts bleeding and he admits to Lucy that he just took a cyanide pill. He tells her that if she brings his severed head to Moldaver, she can change the future and then hands her a saw. He encourages her and calls her by her name, even though she never told him, but he dies moments later. Left with no choice, she simply says, “Okey dokey,” as she slices his head off.
