PopWire recently got to chat with actress Sarah Wynter to talk about her new show, Goliath, her own personal TV preferences, and her volunteer work as a mother. If you missed our first article where she talked about the show and what drew her to it, be sure to check it out!
Below, we discuss what it’s like working on an online streaming series and what kind of TV viewer she is.
There are many differences between shows made to be released week-to-week and shows released in one giant batch on an online streaming site. The biggest difference for Sarah was the immediate audience consumption.
“I think that was so weird and nice and scary to know that I wasn’t on something that would build an audience or lose an audience week to week,” she tells us. “It would just sort of come out in one day and people watch it or didn’t.
“It was something that can grow over time. It’s not the kind of thing where you’ve got to be a hit the first week or they’re going to yank you from programming.”

In our previous piece, Wynter talked about the “impatience” that networks have on their series and that the strict deadlines often create a hindrance in having creative freedom. This creative freedom and freedom of the material were other differences she discovered while working on the series.
“You can swear [laughs], and you can improvise a little bit. You don’t have an entire team of network executives coming down hard on the director or the producers because someone wants to say something that wasn’t in the script. It’s a more liberating set to be on. We’re allowed to improvise which was really lovely.”
She personally prefers to binge watch shows when she is the consumer so working on a show structured like that was exciting. “I love to binge watch. I love the binge of TV viewing now and being able to have the freedom to watch it whenever I want and wherever I want. I have my iPad everywhere.”
Even the shows that are structured as week-to-week episodes, Sarah says she prefers to watch in one sitting. “I DVR them so I’m basically bingeing them anyway. I’m fast forwarding the commercials. It really has changed.”
She is a fan of a lot of genre shows on the air right now, listing Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Stranger Things as some of her recent favorites. In one case, it’s the creator that drew her in with Ryan Murphy. “I really love all the Ryan Murphy shows. They’re very twisted and dark and I kind of like that stuff so I enjoy his shows.”
Stay tuned for more on our chat with the lovely Sarah Wynter. In the meantime, you can catch Sarah as Gina Larson in Goliath, streaming on Amazon. Wynter will next appear as a special guest star on the 400th episode of Law & Order: SVU in February!
