“The Endgame” Episode “Bury the Lede” Recap: Black Swan

Recap of episode “Bury the Lede”

At this point, the question is what twist won’t The Endgame pull off next? This week’s episode, “Bury the Lede,” has Elena lure a newscaster into her plot, while Owen’s connection to Elena and Sergey is revealed. Let’s dive in!

Argentina | Val (Ryan Michelle Bathe) sends the photo of Elena (Morena Baccarin), Sergey (Costa Ronin), and Owen (Kamal Bolden) to Flowers (Jorden Johnson-Hinds), who determines that the photo was taken in 2016, when Owen was undercover in Argentina. At the same time, the robbers in one of the seized banks grab a hostage and lock her in the bank’s vault, where she has four hours of oxygen before she suffocates. Doak (Noah Bean) suggests feeding gas into the bank to knock out the robbers, but it could also kill the hostages. Then, the news feed across New York City plays a video of Elena revealing that she’ll let the hostage go if news anchor Tyler Erickson goes to the bank.

The Swan | Erickson enters the bank and is asked one question by the robbers: “Tell us about the swan.” Erickson has no idea what they’re talking about, but Val spots a fire at a storage warehouse whose logo is a swan. They open one of the lockers and inside is a dead woman’s body in a freezer. Doing some digging, Val finds out that the body was an alleged suicide victim whose body was never found, but she was an investigative journalist, potentially linking her to Erickson. The trail goes cold after that, but Flowers spots the bank robbers emptying the cash from the bank and taking it somewhere where the cameras can’t see. Elena once again broadcasts a message on the news asking citizens to go to the bank.

Making Friends | During a flashback to 2016 in Argentina, Owen goes undercover to meet Elena and Sergey in a restaurant when they are attacked by gunmen with star tattoos. Owen is wounded in the attack and Elena and Sergey stitch him up, but find out his true identity and offer him a deal. Doak prepares to flood the bank with gas and they storm the bank and rescue the hostages, just as the cash from the bank flies through the air outside the bank, causing a frenzy among the crowd outside, allowing the robbers to escape.

Val questions Erickson, who once again denies anything to do with the body in the locker. Val then questions the woman who was held in the vault, who turns out to be the best friend of the victim and got a text from her with the number 1164 in it, leading Val to search the deposit box in the vault with that number- which leads to the victim’s notes on the big article she was working on. This reveals that the victim was investigating Erickson for connections with a Ukrainian crime family- the same family that attacked Elena and Sergey in Argentina. Val arrests Erickson and then talks to Elena, who reveals that the crime family shot Owen in Argentina. Val returns to her apartment and looks at the clover that Owen gave her and then sees a clover sticker on a book on the bookshelf. Opening it, Val finds a flash drive…
