Devious Maids Recap: Wedding Bells and Bullets

To say that the Devious Maids sophomore season closer ended with a bang is a huge understatement. The finale, titled “Look Back in Anger,” ended with a bang and then some! The installment included Nick’s confession, a new opportunity for Carmen, relationships strengthened as others crumbled. Let’s take a look at some of the events that transpired in the season finale.

CONFESSION | The big secret Nicholas Deering (Mark Deklin) has been keeping from Marisol (Ana Ortiz) is finally revealed. While he and his then wife Dalia were on their way to a Chamber of Commerce luncheon, she revealed to him that she had been having an affair with Opal (Joanna Adler), which distracted him. He took his eyes off the road and hit and killed a young boy and kept driving off. The young boy turned out to be Barrett Powell, the son of Adrian (Tom Irwin) and Evenlyn (Rebecca Wisocky). After confessing this to the Powell’s, Adrian takes a swipe at Mr. Deering with a blade, but is stopped by his wife before even worse damage could be done. “The only reason that you are not dead right now is I believe a harsher punishment awaits you,” she tells Nick. “One beyond your imagination.”

CHANGE OF HEART AND KIDNEY | Pablo Diaz (Alex Fernandez) is a match and offers to donate his kidney to his wife’s employer, Genevieve (Susan Lucci), in exchange of a reconciliation. But when Zoila (Judy Reyes) learns the truth about the reason why he wanted to come back home, she sends him her goodbyes and leaves for Javier (Ivan Hernandez). After pretty much being dumped by Zoila, Pablo has a change of heart and rescinds his offer to donate his kidney to Genevieve.

PICKUP ARTIST | Carmen (Roselyn Sanchez) eases her disappointment after being fired by Spence (Grant Show) with a few drinks at a bar where a handsome man catches her eye. She doesn’t give him the time of day, but manages to leave him with a demo of her CD. On their next encounter, he tells her that he knows the head of talent at Discerna Records. He gave her Carmen’s demo and wants to set up a meeting. Naturally, Carmen sleeps with the man (like she did with the producer in Season 1), and after their romp in the sheets, he comes clean. He tells her about the truth about the record executive he mentioned and immediately Carmen realizes that he lied about that to get her into bed. The truth is that he does know the head of talent at Discerna Records. “The problem is,” he tells her, “she’s my wife.”

WEDDING JITTERS | Spence (Grant Show) finally pops the question to Rosie (Dania Ramirez) with the help of her son. She wholeheartedly accepts his proposal, but on the day of the wedding, she begins to have second thoughts after being frustrated with Spence’s extravagant spending habits and financial troubles. But her girls are there for her and they reassure her Spence loves her with all his heart, not to worry about the future, and to have faith that some people get to live happily ever after.

DRIVE BY | After Ty (Gideon Glick) and his partners in crime are close to being outed, his partners flee the country leaving him all alone to take the fall. Not wanting to take all the blame for the robberies and death of Alejandro Rubio, he takes action and plans to kill the only person that can connect him to those crimes: Valentina (Edy Ganem). He drives by the church where Rosie and Spence’s wedding is taking place and goes on a shooting spree.

Who do you think got shot? Were you surprised that Rosie’s husband is still alive? And who do you think is the father of Zoila’s baby? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts on the episode!
