Season 2 of Lifetime’s hit dramedy Devious Maids returned tonight and served up a fresh batch of mysteries, new faces and introduced a few possible hookups that could happen later in the season. Let’s run down a few of the things that happened in tonight’s episode, “An Ideal Husband.”

OVER THE BRIDGE | The season opener begins with with a married couple having an argument which leads to the wife storming away into the night on foot. Her husband Nick Deering (Mark Deklin), his maid Opal (Joanna Adler) and her son Ethan go off in search of her. They locate the missus at the top of a bridge and after a little more arguing, we hear Dahlia screaming off camera as she falls to her death over the bridge. When police and paramedics arrive, the three witnesses claim that she jumped and Nick adding that his wife was suicidal. Cut to present day, 20 years later, and Mr. Deering now has a new woman in his life: Marisol (Ana Ortiz) — and Opal does not like her one bit!

UPSTAIRS | Carmen (Roselyn Sanchez) and Alejandro’s (Matt Cadeno) fake relationship is in full swing and while she ambitious singer definitely loves the fabulous perks of the famous life, there’s one problem at home that is keeping her unhappy. Carmen carries on her faux relationship with her employer, but Odessa (Melinda Page Hamilton) is not having it and refuses to take orders from her. Carmen feels like she’s being disrespected but has a change of heart when she realizes that Odessa’s behavior was because she no longer felt important and a friend to Carmen.

OUT OF AFRICA | Valentina (Edy Ganem) was upset that Remi (Drew Van Acker) extended his stay in Africa and left him there to come back home. Still furious that her mother lied to her about Remi leaving her behind, Valentina keeps her return a secret from her mother and stays at a sleazy hotel. When her mother Zoila (Judy Reyes) finds out, she asks her to come home, but the upset aspiring fashion designer rebels and plans to live with Genevieve (Susan Lucci) instead. Ultimately, Valentina looks for a live-in job as a maid and finds it working for the Powell’s!

BEJEWELED | During a dinner party at the Powell’s a gang of robbers storm the house taking all of their jewelry. Since then, Adrian (Tom Irwin) has had PTSD and is severely paranoid that their home will once again become a target. He hires a bodyguard for extra protection and the handsome man is a sight for sore eyes for Evelyn (Rebecca Wisocky). We later see the robbers trading in the jewels for money and then hand out the cash to several homeless people, including Evelyn’s prized necklace she got form her husband.

Devious Moments and other Observations

 • We thought it was hilarious how Adrian gawked at his new made and how “hideous” she was. After his last string of gorgeous maids, their new hire was a big and unwelcome change for Mr. Powell.

 • Our rewind button was almost worn out after we kept replaying the moment where Evelyn lost her footing and fell to the floor after taking one look at her devilishly handsome bodyguard Tony (Dominic Adams).

 • Feeling threatened that her husband Spence (Grant Show) will leave her for Rosie (Dania Ramirez), Peri Westmore (Mariana Klaveno) drops a bomb on her husband and reveals to him that she is pregnant. There’s just one problem: She’s not! How long will it take for Spence to find out the truth?

While the sophomore season’s premiere wasn’t as strong as the pilot, we still loved all the deviousness that “An Ideal Husband” delivered. We missed these characters terribly and we thank Lifetime for delivering the show to us a couple months earlier than the premiere last year.

Devious Maids airs Sundays at 10pm on Lifetime.
