“Debris” Season Finale Recap: All Together Now

Well, it’s the season finale of Debris and after “Celestial Body,” we have lots and lots and LOTS of questions. Will we finally get answers for the season’s mysteries? Will secrets be revealed? Will we get a guest star from science fiction past? Let’s try to make sense of it all!

Gotta Keep Running | A random woman awakens and leaves her husband and baby to drive off to a quarry and join a group of strangers all standing around for no apparent reason. Maddox (Norbert Leo Butz) informs Bryan (Jonathan Tucker) of Anson’s (Scroobius Pip) escape and that he had pieces of Debris implanted into his body. Bryan and Finola (Riann Steele) pick up George (Tyrone Benskin), who sees a strange figure made of smoke and sand following him before he demands to leave.

He leads Bryan and Finola to the quarry, tracking the piece of Debris, where they find the people all standing around. As George observes, all of them begin to laugh in unison and experience the same emotions all together. Bryan and Finola do research on the people and discover that they’re all new parents as George locates the Debris further in the quarry.

Convergence | As Maddox delivers his piece of Debris to his Russian contact Irina, who begins to test it, Anson meets a man, played by “Fringe” alum John Noble in a surprise cameo, at a convenience store in which the customers have been mutilated into crushed up corpses. As Bryan prepares to shut down the Debris, George privately tells Finola that they have to sever the Debris’ hold on the people to move it and doing so will wipe their memories. While Finola insists that they can find another way, George says that Influx agents are on their way- because he called them.

It’s here that George reveals his true colors and confesses to being a part of Influx since the beginning and that Influx needs the Debris to unlock humanity’s full potential. Anson and his men show up and hold Finola at gunpoint and force her to take a pill that protects her from the Debris’ effects. They deactivate the Debris, wiping the minds of all the people nearby, including Bryan.

The Third Man | As George and his men pack up the Debris, Bryan wakes up and somehow remembers Finola and stumbles into the quarry. John Noble recognizes Bryan as “The Third Man,” but walks away from him and takes George and the Debris with him. Bryan tells Finola that he and two others were injured in a Debris event and have been taking injections for treatment and that may have spared him from the Debris effects. As George and the Influx men drive away, George sees the smoke figure again.

Maddox takes the Debris piece to his house and uses it on his comatose son and brings him back to consciousness. In Arizona, the man waiting in the desert is greeted by the ball of light from the warehouse and he takes it to Brill (Sebastian Roche) in a cave. Brill reveals Finola in suspended animation and says, “Let’s begin.” Confused? Good!

NBC recently held its annual upfronts to announce its 2021-22 schedule, and as of right now, decisions about a Debris renewal are still up in the air.
