“Debris” Recap: Secrets of the Mind

Recap of episode “You Can Call Her Caroline”

“Debris” delivers yet another trippy and twist filled episode in “You Can Call Her Caroline,” but at this point, that’s a regular occurrence for this show! Bryan and Finola must find the cause of a man’s mysterious suicide, leading them to find a little girl, who knows more than she lets on.

Freeze It | A guy named Liam is looking very nervous while waiting for a ferry when suddenly everyone around him freezes still and Liam begins shaking. One woman on the ferry platform takes the blue bag he has with him and walks away, leaving Liam to pull out a gun and kill himself.

In Langley, Bryan (Jonathan Tucker) meets Maddox (Norbert Leo Butz) to discuss Anson’s (Scroobius Pip) phone calls from Maine and orders him to follow the trail, but Bryan lets Maddox know that Finola (Riann Steele) knows George is alive, which Finola later finds out and is not happy about.

Their plane lands in Maine, where Gordon (Thomas Cadrot) informs them of the incident involving Liam and that they found the woman who took the blue bag with no memory of what happened and no bag. Bryan and Finola go to see Liam’s brother Luke (Benjamin Hollingsworth), who’s taking care of Liam’s daughter Caroline (Evelyn Burke) and inform him of Liam’s death. Luke says that Debris fell into the swamp behind their house and when Bryan and Finola head there, Finola suddenly has an urge to leave, as if the Debris is speaking to her.

Torture Time | Maddox interrogates Anson, but with a very interesting and uncomfortable twist: He shoves a rod into his brain that visualizes his thoughts on a screen and electrocutes him if he doesn’t cooperate! Back in Maine, Finola discovers that Liam called his ex wife the morning he died and she and Bryan go visit her and her new husband.

She says that Liam asked her to go get Caroline if something happened to him and that she won custody of her after a long court battle, but refused to pick her up. Then she and her husband both say in very creepy fashion that Caroline belongs at Liam’s home.

Bryan and Finola return to Liam’s house, where Caroline is collecting Debris from the swamp. While Bryan talks to Luke, Finola finds Caroline and she says, “He makes me get them for him, so he’ll have enough,” and then looks at the house, where inside, Bryan finds the blue bag in Luke’s room!

The Mission | Bryan talks to Luke and Luke confesses that he’s using the Debris to control people and was behind Liam’s death because he was a soldier in Afghanistan and was bitter after his commanding officers let his men die. He wants to use the Debris to control the commanders of the army, but Bryan tries to talk him down, telling him that he can help him recover from the trauma.

Unfortunately, Luke not only refuses, he influences Bryan and Finola into leaving and forgetting everything they’ve just learned about him. Even more unfortunately, Caroline tells him where she’s been hiding the Debris she’s been finding and he now has enough to enact his plan.

Luke storms into the airfield where Bryan and Finola now remember him and Luke forces a plane to fly into the ground. He then tries to get Bryan to shoot himself, but Caroline arrives and uses her sway over the Debris to make Luke kill himself. Caroline’s mother arrives and picks her up, having been mind controlled by Luke to ignore her urge to raise her.

Finola then gets a call from her sister, Deedee, who uses a code phrase from their childhood in their conversation while urging Finola to come home. Turns out that DeeDee is being forced to call her by Ferris (Anjali Jay) and that’s not even the craziest part: Bryan gets a call from Maddox, saying that they need to raid the place where they found George.
