After ABC’s family drama Brothers & Sisters ended its run, the network gave Dave Annable a call letting him know that they wanted to continue their relationship and keep working with him. That’s what eventually lead him to 666 Park Avenue, a seductive and supernatural new series. In it he plays Henry, an ambitious lawyer from the mid-west who, with his wife Jane (Rachael Taylor), decide to move to New York and manage a luxury apartment building which may have more ghosts and demons than actual tenants.
We spoke to the actor during our roundtable interviews this past summer in San Diego where he discussed his excitement for the new spooky drama and why pilot appealed to him. “It’s kind of badass!” exclaims Annable. “I thought it was a very cool genre that ABC really hasn’t touched yet in terms of the horror aspect. I read the script and really loved the part and loved the people involved. I found out Terry was attached and I’m like, ‘Holy $#!+! the guy from LOST is in it? I’m in!'”
While there are a few spine-tingling scenes in the pilot, including a subplot about a desperate husband who will do almost anything to bring back a deceased loved one, 666 does have an equal amount of sexy, but will the show ever get too sexy? “There are definitely some sexy moments which are incredibly uncomforatble for my sisters to watch.” Annable laughs. “That’s part of the show; the sexiness and seduction and being seduced by [building owners] Teri [O’Quinn] and Vanessa [Williams] with their charm. I think thats why they’re so perfectly cast, because who wouldn’t fall in love with these two characters, you know? It’s ABC, I don’t think they can show too much. It’s kiss, kiss, cut.”
Some of the residents may have already caught on to what goes on behind the walls of the haunted building known as The Drake. But when the address of said building is the title of the show, don’t expect that you can leave so easily. Will Henry and Jane discover the truth about The Drake and start packing their bags? “We don’t want to make these characters look stupid,” Annable explains. “You know, hanging in for too long. There’s a certain point where the characters figure out what’s going on, which brilliantly the writers already addressed. I can’t give anything away, but they will probably try and leave at some point but I’m sure other forces may keep them there. I’m very curious to see the characters’ path and how they try to get out and what keeps them there.”
Annable’s character on the show is a big change from his previous one as Justin Walker on Brothers & Sisters and is also one of the reasons he came on board. “That was definitely something I was attracted to. I was very lucky and happy that I got to smile in the pilot and not have drama upon drama put on my shoulders. I was really attracted to the material and the genre and the network and the studio are behind it. So fingers crossed!”
666 Park Avenue premieres Sunday, October 30th, at 10|9c on ABC.
