“Supergirl” Recast: Erica Durance Steps Into Alluring Role

Yet another DC TV alumni is joining The CW’s “Supergirl”

Laura Benanti, who played Kara Zor-El’s departed mother Alura in the last two seasons of the DC series, is unable to reprise her role on season 3 due to prior commitments to another project.

Fortunately, the show has already recast the role- with “Smallville” actress Erica Durance, who played Lois Lane on the ten year-running “Superman” origin story.

“Supergirl” Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg released a statement on this shakeup: “Unfortunately, Laura… was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in NY. But we are so blessed that Erica has come aboard to offer her own interpretation of Kara’s mother.

“We know Erica will continue the proud tradition of legacy actors joining our shows and creating new and exciting takes on classic DC characters.”

“Supergirl” season 3 is scheduled to air this fall on The CW.
