“Supergirl” Episode Review: A Hero’s Duty

In the season finale of Supergirl, “Better Angels,” Kara turns the tables on Non and Indigo, forcing them to play their ultimate endgame. Kara must do the unthinkable to stop them.

The season finale continued the trend of “Myriad” by enforcing the idea that not even Supergirl can save th day. It was interesting to see Kara save National City before the main titles, only to find out that she may be backed into a corner she can’t get out of.

This lead to some pretty heavy stuff for the show. Kara was practically suicidal, bidding goodbye to James, Winn and Grant before preparing to make the ultimate sacrifice. It was emotional, but Lord’s very minor warning that she may not come out alive was too small an action to merit such a drastic change in character.

The final showdown with Non and Indigo vs. Supergirl and Martian Manhunter was impressive and the final defeat of Non called to mind Kara’s face off with the Red Tornado, albeit with more weight behind it. It was also refreshing that the final battle essentially did nothing to stop the villains, forcing Kara to fly into space with Fort Ras.

In a clever bookend for the season, Alex saves Kara in the pod in which she came to Earth, saving the world. Plus, Grant gives Kara a promotion and Kara and James finally get together. It would’ve been enough to wrap everything up right there, but cliffhanger time! A Kryptonian pod crashes in the city. What or who is in it? To be continued!

“Better Angels” was a killer finale, packing in action, emotion and character. It wrapped up the season nicely while also setting up for season 2. A great closer to a great first season.

On October 10, “Supergirl” moves to The CW. Stay tuned to OMFGTV for more reviews of the new season!
