In the Supergirl episode “Manhunter,” J’onn J’onzz’s true identity is exposed, forcing the military, headed by Lucy, to make a difficult decision. Siobhan tries to get her revenge on Kara, while Kara herself must do whatever it takes to save J’onn.
When it comes to revelations, this episode had everything but the kitchen sink. Tons of flashbacks introduced new information about J’onn- we’re officially calling him that, I take it?- and Jeremiah Danvers’ past, showing that the real Hank Henshaw was kind of a jerk. Then, Alex’s recruitment into the DEO was revealed, where we learned that she was a bit of a party animal. Finally, we got a bit more of Kara’s early years on Earth, which retread a lot from “Man of Steel,” with Kara struggling with her powers and Jeremiah lecturing her after a daring rescue.
Lucy returned this week, and had a real point to the show for a change. Up until now, she’s been a spike in Kara and James’ relationship, but here, she starts off as extremely devoted to her superiors and corkscrews into a major player after finding out Supergirl’s true identity. That, and her promotion to Director of the DEO should give her some good stuff for the final three episodes.
And once again, Siobhan was in the show to purely be a nuisance. Although, the reveal that she has superpowers promises that she’ll finally get a point in the show, but we’ll see.
“Manhunter” was a solid episode, full to the brim with reveals and setups for the final three episodes. It’s getting down to crunch time for the season, so here’s hoping we go out with a bang.
