Not only does The CW’s The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle make their return tonight starting at 8|7c, the network has also made an announcement that will please CW fans all over the U.S.
Before today, if you missed an episode of your favorite CW show, you would have to wait several days until that episode would be available to stream on CWTV.com and Hulu. Sure, you could fork over the monthly subscription fee Hulu charges to watch the episode the next day, but most of us prefer ad-supported, free streaming.
Early Thursday (March 15th) The CW launched a brand new app for your mobile devices such as iPad, iPhone, and Android platforms. The best part of the announcement? NEXT-DAY streaming of its programming! Watch your favorite CW Network shows like The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, 90210, America’s Next Top Model, Supernatural, One Tree Hill, The Secret Circle, Ringer, Nikita and more, whenever and wherever you want!
Full episodes of The CW’s primetime shows will now be available on the app and on CWTV.com at approximately 6:00 a.m. ET on the morning after broadcast on the network. As on CWTV.com, the most recently aired five episodes are available on the app, and it is fully advertiser-supported.
“With the launch of The CW’s new mobile app and moving to next day streaming on all platforms, we remain in perfect sync with our young audience who want to watch and connect with our shows whenever and wherever they are,” said Rick Haskins, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Digital Programs, The CW. “Both of these steps are an important part of our overall strategy and on-going evolution as we remain the network of the digital generation.”
The new app will also feature social media capabilities, allowing users to share photos and video links with their friends via Facebook and Twitter, and also connects fans to The CW’s Facebook pages as well as the Twitter feeds for The CW, its stars and producers. The app also includes video interviews, behind-the-scenes looks and previews of The CW’s primetime series. Users can also view a schedule of upcoming episodes and set reminders for when they can watch their favorite shows live. If we can get CWingo on the app, that would be perfect!
News of this launch could not have come at a better time. On Friday, March 16th at 8am, Apple stores across the country as well as a few other countries will be releasing the newest generation of their famous iPad, now with a Retina Display, offering a million more pixels than your 1080p HDTV! The next step would be for The CW to offer streaming in HD, but we probably won’t see that for a while.
We are always asked by fans, “When is The CW putting [insert show here]’s latest episode on their website?” Now viewers just have to wait a few hours after broadcast to watch it! Viewers who don’t have access to DVR’s can now rest assured that if they miss an episode, it won’t be hard to find.
