“Charmed” Season 4 Interview: Melonie Diaz & Sarah Jeffery Tease the Series’ “Evil” & “Creepy” New Villain: The Tallyman

Airs Fridays at 8pm on The CW

Tallyman, Tallyman, he keeps count. Tallyman, Tallyman, don’t step out. If you’re good, then he pays. If you’re not, then he slays.

After a chaotic and deadly Fledgling Ceremony which found Pixie Annie (Zoe Christie) receiving “super cray” bat wings instead of gossamer wings and then dying not long after, Jordan (Jordan Donica) informs Harry (Rupert Evans) that the Tallyman could be responsible.

Harry is quick to shut that notion down, telling Jordan that he’s “in no mood to go around hunting boogeymen from a magical nursery rhyme.” “The Tallyman might not be real,” Jordan replies, “but there’s still someone out there hurting people.”

The duo head to the Blue Camellia, an exclusive magical-patrons-only bar, and through clever manipulation on a leprechaun, the intel they receive leads them to an old cabin in the woods outside of Newport. It is here where Harry discovers that the Tallyman is not fictitious after all.

During a recent roundtable interview with PopWire and Charmed stars Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery, the two preview why the Tallyman is The CW series’ most dangerous and challenging enemy yet.

“He seems like a normal person,” Diaz tells us of the Tallyman, played by Jed Rees. “He’s evil in the way that he just preys on people’s vulnerabilities in a very human way.” The actress adds that this season’s big bad is challenging and the Charmed Ones have no idea what they’re in for.

“It’s very puzzling,” she says. “They need time to figure out what he’s really needing and what he’s really going to do. It’s really hard to track him because no one knows where he lives or how to get a hold of him. It’s very confusing for them in that way. Usually, with the big bad, they kind of knew a little bit more.”

Because the Tallyman seems like a very normal person, Jeffery says that no one knows his identity. “It’s almost creepy because he’s got like a civilian quality like he could be anyone kind of thing, so I think it’s a little offputting and uncomfortable because of that.”

Jeffery goes on to say that their new foe will keep them on their toes as he has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. “He is a master manipulator and puzzling in a literal and figurative sense. He’s probably my favorite villain we’ve had.”
