“The 100” Exclusive: Chelsey Reist Talks Harper, Monty, and Previews Episode 4, ‘A Lie Guarded’

“The radiation is here and the end is now.”

Shortly after The 100‘s shocking third episode aired last week, OMFGTV excitedly jumped on the phone to talk Harper with actress Chelsey Reist. We covered everything from Harper’s journey, to her relationship with Monty, to what’s next for our favorite delinquents and more!

Harper has been through a lot more than the typical teenager. First she was sent to the ground to see if it was livable, then she was captured by The Mountain Men and had bone marrow harvested. After that she had to help save her people from the City of Light. So where does Harper go now?

“Now in season 4, I think she’s gotten through the betrayal of being sent to Earth,” Chelsey tells us. “She’s gotten through the hurt of being kidnapped and she’s finally in this safe place to start settling in to feeling strong; the only female guard, to feeling strong in her relationship with Monty.”

But what will Harper do now that she knows the world is ending very soon? “Just when she’s gotten through everything, she’s hit with another blow, and this season we’ll see how that impacts her.”

Season 4 is the first time that Chelsey is a series regular, meaning we are going to get a whole lot more of Harper! “[This season] we’ll see a lot more screen time of her and the group she’s with, and her relationship with herself, and the world ending, and her relationship with Monty.”

Speaking of Harper’s relationship with Monty, Chelsey was very excited when her character’s arc went that way. The actress said Christopher Larkin and herself began fostering a connection between their characters back in season 2 when they were in Mt. Weather together, and the writers took it from there.

“This season, they’re giving us so much more screen time!” she effuses. “There’s more time to let the relationship breathe and grow naturally.” So Harpy fans, strap in for a season filled with Harper/Monty love!

With Harper’s best friend dead and Jasper happily counting down the days until they all die, what will happen to Harper and Monty? Will they turn to each other for comfort in the face of these hard times? “The world’s gonna end in 2 months, I think it would be natural to turn to your partner and those closest to you [for comfort].”

According to Chelsey, Monty is Harper’s “safehold.” This season will see them turning to each other a lot to try to get through these difficult and scary times. “I think knowing the world is ending soon is going to harden their love for each other, and they’re going to try to work through this together. It’s The 100, so it won’t be that easy.”

The delinquents learned in episode 3 that they have 2 months left before the earth becomes unlivable, now what? Chelsey previews the season’s fourth installment, titled “A Lie Guarded.”

“So we’ve left last episode with Clarke writing her list of the 100 that’ll survive,” she says. “[In episode 4], we’re going to see the repercussions of playing God. Because in a way Clarke is playing God.” She continued on to say, “As it was teased in the trailer for 404, what Harper says, ‘black rain.’ Black rain is coming. The radiation is here and the end is now. It’s a big one. I can’t wait to watch it.”
